I have a black diamond harness that I have to double backthrough the loop and ever time I go to pull the tighter on and through it seem to loosen does any one have any tips to get me harness tighter. Also after about 70 feet I start to get nervous with the heights what's the best way to over come this or dose it just go away with climbing experience ?

when you double back through your harness, you might loose 5mm of tightness. if it still feels loose, just re-do it. as for getting over the height thing, you just need to trust your belayer & your gear. it'll just take some time

It should make feel better that your gear can handle probably more than 20 times your body weight.

That'll lock everything down tight and give you a nice big space through which to run the belt. 2. That may be a quick question, but there is no quick answer. Do what these guys above me said, but if you find that doesn't work, you're going to have to dive deeper into the psychology of it all. Here's a good place to begin: http://www.warriorsway.com

Learn more about the gear and why you can really trust it. If you can't trust your gear, no amount of work is going to make you feel safe. Once you have full faith you won't die every time you fall just start looking around while climbing. Next time your just hanging after a fall take a deep breath and a good look around. Up, down, left, right.. all over the place, and relax knowing that your safe. Try the same thing while climbing or at a rest point. Don't focus on the distance between you and the ground. Focus on easing the tension in your body.

In reply to: Also after about 70 feet I start to get nervous with the heights what's the best way to over come this or dose it just go away with climbing experience ? i know this sounds goofy, go to an indoor swimming pool and jump off the highdive! in the summer, jump off cliffs into a lake or river.... follow safety protocols and make sure you can swim

That's the nature of the double buckle, but you don't need the harness so tight you can't breath. Getting used to heights just takes time.

For your harness, make sure the leg loops are up high into your crotch, which is where they will go when you fall upright. Then make sure the waist band is up over your pants belt. Put the cinch belt tip through the first slot, then the second slot to leave a loop of slack. The trick is to press the belt backwards onto the buckle after pulling the left side of the loop very tight. That locks the belt position, while you pull the slack through the other slot. I hold it back with my left thumb, while pulling the right side of the buckle up with the left forefinger to help the belt slide through. One last jerk from the right finishes that part. Then the buckle is tilted toward the right to reverse the belt through the left slot from the top. For your problem with fear, please learn to use Search here, it is a repeated question. Could you tell us what your native language is? .

In reply to your 2nd question, I would say that it's probably not so much a fear of heights that's holding you back, but a fear of the unknown. Figure out what's behind your fear of heights and you'll be able to conquer the root of your fear. This article may help as well: http://evolvingmovement.ca/2011/10/12/fear-factor/

You know, Rmsyll2, I was just fixing to kinda defend you against the likes of csproul cause I notice he likes to bash your other posts about toproping pilot mountain (even though most of your posts are in fact moronic).....but then you go and be a jackass to this guy for no good reason. I guess I'm learning why you take such a beating from others. Now, Nick, sorry for the hijack....I have nothing really to offer that hasn't been said already other than that you will get used to the fears involved with time spent climbing.

He said, sort of, that because he did have a scary fall and the gear did work, he now trusts the gear and that has cured his fear. If he had read other topics dealing with fear, he would have found that as advice. If he had a good instructor, the same lesson would have been arranged very early in his training. .

If you can't adjust your double back buckle on your harness tight enough, or you don't have confidence with it and it's distracting you while you're climbing, buy a harness with a speed lock buckle. Pausing mid lead to wonder if your harness is done up properly is just not good for your lead head, spend $50 on speed adjust harness and be done with it.
