Just finished forging a North Wall Hammer. Took about 5 hours; including carving the handle.

Nice! What type of steel did you forge it from? What type of forge, coke or gas fired?

awsome! i still swing my ancient chouinard alpine hammer; get a lot of laughs when partners show up with the latest carbon-fiber tools....

Coal Forge. Not quite sure of the type of steel. In it's previous life it was a rod from a hydraulic ram. I've made a hammer from it before. Very stout steel.

Love it. Nice work!

I still use my Chouinard Alpine Hammer too, but I use it for digging dirt and vines out of cracks.

Hammer worked great! I'm very pleased with it. Used it for setting a piton, down climbing in low dagger position, and cleaning cracks.
