I may be heading out to Oregon in the last week of December. What are the most popular climbing areas in Oregon? Any must-go places? Also, what is the weather like? Mostly rainy? Slim chance of climbing? I know next to nothing about Oregon, so any info would be helpful. Thanks guys.

Based on your name Im going to assume you're from the area. Ive heard Smith is pretty snowy in the winter, but do people still climb there in December? I would image that it would be freezing!

Bend get the snow, a few years ago I was there on Christmas day and there were people climbing. The rock is more vertical so you can easly climbing with some snow, on the ground. I climbed in the Madras area in January last year.

Need some more info as to what part of OR you will be and for how long.

Like people have said Smith is one of the must go to, but will be cold at night but temps will be ok during the day. May need to have a jacket on when not climbing.

You also have some areas down south around Ashland and Medford. Plus if you want there is a lot of climbing in Mt. Shasta City, CA only about a hour south of Ashland.

Smith is nice in the winter, as long as the sun is out, which is most of the time. Central OR (where Smith Rock is) is in the high desert, so it's fairly dry. If you go west of the Cascades, expect lots of rain in winter.

Nights will be in the teens or 20's, days in the mid 30's-mid 40's most of December. And the ten day forecast is for sun most of the time!
