my vote goes to "probably not". sorry to be pessemistic, but unless you have the rock climbing genes like sharma and graham, no one can compete with mutants like them. sharma sent a v14 at, what, age 14 or something like that? i dunno, but before 16 no doubt. granted, people who naturally suck can become damn good through practice and experience, but the best? no. but i don't know u so maybe u are the next sharma. so hell, go for it :-) mike

Build a time machine, go back to your 4-year old self and get him climbing And maybe go back a bit further and do some gene splicing. Well, a start would be to get out there and climb some more. That at least would give you enough background to avoid having to ask questions like this Hang on a moment, does it occur to anyone that this could be a troll? I've seen the term "troll" used a few times on this site. What is that exactly? Josh

how hard do you climb now? if it is anything less than 5.12 or more likely 5.13 then you can pretty much forget about it. unless your 11 then just forget about being the best and just try to have as much fun climbing as you can. and that may very well be trying to be one of the best climbers in the U.S. [ This Message was edited by: crack_head on 2003-01-06 16:28 ]

The surest way would be to capture everyone in USA who is better than you and imprison them in a secret underground prison. I'd start planning, because you will need your own private security force and a whole lot of money.

if u assassinate all the climbers in the usa who are better then u, like the ones that can onsite 5.7 or higher, then i guess u would be the best in america... but then of course theres all the europeans and canadains and whoever else who would still kick ur ass

1. Climb a route. 2. Contact everyone and spray how great you are. 3. Repeat 1 and 2.

Actually, the answer is elegant in its simplicity. Q: How do you become the best climber in the US? A: Climb things in the US that no one else can. Easy solution, concise plan, somewhat difficult to execute, however. Curt

Yeah, it's got to be a troll alright. To the 'what is a troll?' question, see the following. "large volume of frivolous responses" is probably the key phrase in this case: "troll v.,n. To utter a posting on Usenet designed to attract predictable responses or flames. Derives from the phrase "trolling for newbies"; which in turn comes from mainstream "trolling";, a style of fishing in which one trails bait through a likely spot hoping for a bite. The well-constructed troll is a post that induces lots of newbies and flamers to make themselves look even more clueless than they already do, while subtly conveying to the more savvy and experienced that it is in fact a deliberate troll. If you don't fall for the joke, you get to be in on it." [ This Message was edited by: womble on 2003-01-07 04:06 ]

I would reccomend climbing as often as possible and comps never hurt. What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger or more experienced or at least gives you a cool drinking story. The great things about comps is it gives you a brearing on how well you can climb and gives you the chance to climb with people who are better than you. Then learn everything you can and "voila" soon you will be a sure head turner.

Hmmmm... you sound very ambitious... just a thought tho, I don't think Dave Graham or Chris Sharma actually had it in their head to be the best in the world, it basically just happened... but who knows, it may be possible... some ideas: 1 Climb every single day from now on, but make sure you get enough rest in between climbs. If you miss 1 day, you're already second best. (a sponsor would help a lot here.) 2 Get a metobolic booster, that renders you partially crazy. 3 Call Sharma, Graham, Potter, Caldwell, Flourine, and any other hardballs you can think of and climb with any one of them as often as possible! (Good Luck) 4 Never think about being the top climber, most of them are quite humble and quiet about their outstanding abilities. ************OR*************** Just have fun climbing as much as possible and you'll be a great climber in your own world, which is really all that matters.
