I have been looking for a climbing harness that I can use to take wildlife photos. When getting photos I will spend anywhere from 4 hours to 11 hours hanging from a tree, with my feet on foot pegs. I have been having a problem with my legs falling asleep when I use hanging devises of any sort (there are some hunting harness' on the market) Would a climbing harness be any better. I have found several and imagine the more money I spend on it the more likely it will be to do the job. Does anyone have any input on this? I'm just not sure how climbing harness' are used, if its just climb, climb, climb I guess there may not be one for just hanging around. Any suggestions? Thank you for any input.

The Petzl Calidris is supposed to be great for hanging. Any wall harness will be designed to hold you comfortably for longer periods than a sport harness. I got my Calidris in a trade, and it's more than I need, but you can't beat free.

Why don't you just use a chair - i.e. like the kind one might make for a rope swing? That's what belayers usually use when the leader is climbing for hours at a time. You could make one for really cheap. You still wear a harness for safety, but use the chair for comfort. Sometimes, people will bring actual patio furniture along so they've got something with back support. No joke.

I am far from an expert in these matters but have you tried a padded bosun's/boatswain's chair? It seems like what you are looking for.

A belay seat would be a lot more comfortable than most (if not all) harnesses used alone.

Like the others have said, look into a bosun's chair. If that doesn't float your boat then look into arborist harnesses. They're much more padded than any climbing harness, even the cushiest big-wall harnesses.

Cheap harness + hammock chair, like others have said, something with a back on it would be nice. I imagine that no matter what set up you use, with your legs hanging long enough they will eventually fall asleep. Eric

You could use a hunters tree stand as well. Like this.
