I've been climbing since mid-september of this year (not for very long), and have now noticed a weird feeling in my front, high/upper legs/hips. I've somewhat isolated it to just below the "V" area below the abs adjacent to each leg. What happens is, when I lift up my legs (on a overhang, to reach a foot hold), that area feels very tight. And usually, when I stand back up straight it feels like the tendons or muscles on both sides of the areas I described earlier hang up on something and get kind of "plucked" and go back into place. It's a really weird feeling, it doesn't hurt or cause much discomfort... it's more of a "holy crap, what the hell was that?!" type of feeling, if that makes any sense. lol Sometimes when I stand up straight fully from lifting my legs up in that way, that tendon or muscle will feel hung up until I physically push on those areas, which at that point will "pluck" back into place. Edit: Also noticed it does this when just standing up from a sitting position. I guess my real concern is, is this bad? What is actually going on? What can I do to prevent it or to prevent it from getting worse? I did some research, found some pictures. It feels like it might be the Sartorius muscle or the Iliacus muscle below the Inguinal Ligament. http://www.healthline.com/...guinal-ligament/male http://www.healthline.com/...-maps/sartorius/male http://www.healthline.com/.../iliacus-muscle/male I'm pretty sure it's not a hernia.

That is an interesting problem. I think its worth going and getting an accurate diagonsis from a PT. Is it bad? Not sure, but it could be resulting from bad alignment in the hips and pelvis, and or extreme tightness of the muscle / tendon that is giving you the problem. both of which could cause more problems for you in the long run. I suspect that its not the Illacus because of the depth and path of that muscle, but since the hip joint / pelvis are so complex the only way to really know is to go get checked out by a good PT.

Based on the anterior location you are describing, you may be on to something with iliacus...or as most ortho PTs would describe it, iliopsoas, a conflation of iliacus and psoas major, which insert on the femur as a common tendon. Snapping hip syndrome is described here, with iliopsoas described 2nd: http://orthopedics.about.com/...ip/a/snappinghip.htm Almost always, this is not a problem. I imagine if you did it 10 times every day, though, it might start to get sore. You could try some hip flexor stretches to see if that helps. EDIT: Hip flexor stretches: http://www.mayoclinic.com/.../SM00043&slide=5

I'm convinced that is exactly what I have. Everything seems to match up. It is audible, there's no pain, is is a snapping/plucking feeling, no discomfort, nothing's changed within the past week, etc. And not to mention it has been getting annoying, lol. Thanks for the info Onceahardman!
