Climbing Harness Recommendation Needed

I'm having a hard time. My 12 year old son is too skinny for an adult small climbing harness. I'd like to get him a harness, but all of the local stores carry only a small size - no extra small.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good beginner harness that he can grow into, but which is small enough for his skinny waist? Thanks!

There are children's harnesses and your son might fit in one of those.

Another option would be to contact a "local" harness maker, like Misty Mountain, and have them size one for him.

We ave tried the children's harnesses, but oddly enough, he is too big for them - yet too small for adult sizes. It's weird.

I'll look into a custom harness. Thanks!

Tried which children's harnesses? There are many, I suspect you haven't tried them all. If you have tried only the full body harnesses there are others for kids that are waist only ones.

Black Diamond Wiz Kid. The full body "kid" harnesses are for little kids, the Wiz Kid is more of an x-small adult harness.

Search online for Black Diamond Wiz kid harness.

It is a good comfy harness just like adult intro-level BD harnesses. And it is adjustable enough that I can have both a very petite 10yold girl and a skinny 13 yold boy wear the same harness.

The Wiz Kid is for 22-27" Waist
The Women's Primrose SA fits 24-27" for XS

Get a measuring tape.

You can also try the Misty Mountain Primo (kids harness) or Cirque. Both come on the very small side, too skinny for even me, and I have a 28" waist...

As others have said, MM can make any of their harnesses to custom dimensions. I am a smaller guy and had them build my first harness to fit. Excellent quality product, and I will probably buy another from them at some point.

I agree that this harness is good. I've seen children wearing it and I think it is a good choise.
