Day Three: (summit day) woke at 3:00. Summited with three clients at 12:15 @ 14,505'. Got back to camp at 7:30

Day Four: descended from 12,000 to 8,500.
Had an awesome burger and beer in Lone Pine.
Got in the car at 7:30
drove drove drove drove drove.....drove drove drove.

Day Five: Got home at 2:00 AM
heh.

That slog sux.

YoYoing it would not be fun, but.... why didn't you just go to Iceburg on the first day? I've never understood the logic of staying at UBSL instead of Iceburg. Also, you must climb the east face in winter....

Clients don't do well typically at altitude...and they aren't that fast. we have to acclimatize slowly. Also, we have logistics to cover in the morning like gear and pack check. We hit the trail at 10:00 am. Ice Berg in particular is very cold.

East Face is definitely on my list.

I want to do the N Ridge.
do it in winter.

I think we will actually. This weekend we're doing the hotlum ice gully on Shasta. We'll probably do LP in the next few weeks.

All I hear is bla bla bla we're inefficient. Clients should bivvy in car at trailhead like you do, get up early like you do, and be ready for the suckage, like you do. Leave eeeaaarrrrllly and take your sweet-ass time getting up there.

Anything less and charge them more $$ for being a PITA.

But I digress, I used to set rediculous times for my clients. Most (90%) of them met the times and we were able to do some awesome stuff because of it.

Some are that way...but we have a diverse variety of clients. I've had some groups where it would have been great to know ahead of time how talented they were. We could have done three climbs instead of just one.

Merry Christmas er'body!

Your bottle openers were big favorites. I handed them out last night and they were immediately put to use.
Much to my suprise I got a bottle opener too.
Of course its really a can opener, it just happens to have the little bottle opener feature on the bottom also.

I got an annual family pass to the local conservation areas... Mount Nemo (climbing/hiking), kelso (climbing and mtb), rattlesnake point (climbing), halton hills (mtb), Crawford lake (hiking/Indian village) and mountsberg (hiking/kayaking/play farm).
I got a beanie that has a knitted beard thing attached to it, so when I wear the beanie it looks like I have a fiery red beard and it keep my face warm.
Day pass sounds good. Will have to see the beanie w/ a built in beard.
In addition to the can opener (???), I got a camp chair, and some Sears Craftsman tool bags. Those were pretty good. But still waiting the rope bag. Unimpressed

got a couple of shirts and some candy / cookies. beach time was the best time, though.

mom's sending a package fedex tomorrow, so i'll have more goodies soon.

Hit the beach for two days, relaxed inside while it rained for a few days, discovered a new climbing spot and got damn near lucky we weren't murdered (turns out it was a baaaad park we wandered into), climbed 15min from the beach one day, almost got suckered into disturbing a wasp nest, took 7 hours to get back home on a 200-mile trip (fucking traffic).

gotta teach soon. back to work already.

OK the tool bag is cool, and I can load the bigger one with the rock hounding tools. We're getting quite the collection of rocks with gold flakes, let alone other rocks. The boys, well me and wife too, and efficient at find small rocks to collect.

No... Though I'm sure Laz would be a great guide too!

Went with California Alpine guides... One of the guides is an old friend of mine from when I first started climbing. I don't get to see her that often anymore so I'm excited
