Austin huh? You will learn to love limestone, that's for sure All kinds of good short limestone sport climbs and such along the city greenbelt, and there is a private climbing area called Reimers Ranch that's about 20 minutes outside of town, great limestone sport crag. For a granite fix, you can hit Enchanted Rock out near Fredricksburg, maybe an hour, hour and a half from Austin, definitely worth the drive. As far as a job goes - good luck

hey girl .. Reimers Ranch is your best bet for sport. I've also heard good things about The Greenbelt, but I've never been there. I would encourage you to PM Lox for bouldering info. Ignore his profile and most of his messages on the site; he can be a bit haughty sometimes, but I'd definitely take his advice on bouldering areas around Austin. My understanding is that Roger's Park is pretty good, but I'm not much of a boulderer. BTW, E-Rock is mostly trad, but does have some bolted lines ... you can also check out the "South Central" section of the routes db for more info on crags in the area. Feel free to PM when you get here, and I can drive down for a day or two of craggin. amber PS: Welcome to Texas. [ This Message was edited by: clymbr_chk on 2003-01-07 11:30 ]

Hi Amanda, First, welcome to Austin!!!! Second, I have understood that McKinney Falls is one of the best places to do bouldering. I have never been there, yet. The Barton Creek Greenbelt is a very nice place to do some sport climbing, I go there most of the time. Reimer's Ranch has a tons of routes and they are really good, most of the time it is really crowed but it worth it. Reimer's Ranch is about 45 minutes far from Austin. I hope you can find a good job, good luck.

Funny people. Yeah I am the little one no one listens to. I live in Austin. I suck at everything, but I love sucking at everything. I am very active in Austin. I sport climb, top rope, mountainboard, watersports. Basically any non-trad sport. I love adrenaline. But anyways, back to you. Hope you enjoy Austin. What part are you going to be in South North East West? If you would be interested I am good friends with the Head director, along with everyone else, of the Westlake Special Education department. If you would be interested in teaching special education I could help you out there. Westlake is the school district next to Austin. 5-20 min drive from Anywhere in Austin. I could probably help you with general education too. If you are interested pm me. or instant message me on AIM my sn is: someonecall311 Thanks Cody

Hi Amanda, Welcome to Texas. There are a bunch of good folks in Austin (Cody, Sauron and others) that you should contact. Good areas all around and most of them already mentioned. Drop a line when you hit town. Coach

welcome to texas! austin's a wonderful place to be -- check out the live music scene. don't forget also to check out www.bloodyflapper.com for some great beta. A bit closer to SA is some wonderful bouldering at Red Bluff, which is the closest outdoor climbing for me. Lemme know if you need directions, as they're word of mouth only. Don't forget to check out the places mentioned by others in this forum, as well as Pedernales Falls, which has an awesome cave that's well worth the approach. Happy climbing : )
