No way. It was super bomber. I barely got established on the headwall and needed to work out the pump. I figured that it was now or never.

Nice catch on the overhanging ice btw.

Yeah, that slip was really no big deal.

I liked the bit in the story when the hold Sam Elias fell on 'inexplicably blew.'

Inexplicably? Like, can't be explained? I should draw a little diagram: choss wilting under the pressure of a drytool placement.

*writes down new excuse* ...."inexplicably"

Yes, I inexplicably didn't make it to Ouray to compete.

Every vid I've seen of Elias, he has this perpetual look of "I'm so pissed, bummed, because someone took a shit on my puppy!"

A couple things about that. I'd seen it before, but just watched again:
1. Dude is running an INTENSE!! unibrow. Massive tuft of hair on the bridge of his nose. Maybe that's part of why he appears pissed?

2. During that fall, he was actually rock climbing, with his tools slung over his shoulders. While falling, he removes both tools from his shoulders, in his hands. Whoa!! For some reason I find that very impressive?

Yeah, and that was like one of the lamest falls in comp history I'm sure. Who the fuck tries to climb on big pinches like that with gloves on?

Plus he's in some pretty bad need of some manscaping.

Well, I guess Emily Harrington is not a big fan of the manscaping, so he must be doing something right?

Wonder if she's a fan of the Franchise?

I hope so?

The system is broke. Actually it never was; we know this. Regardless.... you'll have to wait for him to come online, and hopefully see it/approve it.

You know, I fell out drytooling just before xmas, was left holding onto a single too, pulling on my arm. I couldn't get it unstuck and eventually had to let go an just drop it.

Nathan said my shouldn't aren't strong enough to deal with that kind of force. He is right. But you know who's shoulders are?

The fucking reporter just wanted to put whatever negative spin he could on the whole thing.

You guys are all down on the reporter. I thought it was cool article that cast the marmot as the cinderalla story. If anything I thought it poked fun at the poncy spandex boys that couldn't get shit done despite their high expectations.

I just feel he paints Nathan as a little too much of an oaf.

"Kutcher found the ice holes, but seemed unsure of what to do with his feet. He cut them loose and heel hooked and campused where other competitors had figured-4ed in stoic control"

There was no comment on how well he climbed the route. Where he hung out and rested, eying up the next hold, and then launched for said hold in one smooth movement.

Marin climbed the route like ass. It was impressive that he made it to the top, but embarrassing to watch a pro climber be that desperate. He couldn't even hold onto the fucking tools with his hands, he instead had to meat hook them with his elbows. And yet this was written about him:

"Marin punched to the log where he wound and unwound Houdini style through three figure 4s"

The whole article to me seemed that instead of cheering for the underdog he was just waiting for the "obviously" better climbers to beat out his time. I mean, this was the last line of the article:

"anyway, there’s a lot about modern mixed climbing that can't be explained."

We can't explain how Kutcher could have beaten out these other, we'll just have to except it as some sort of fluke and move on.

Any way, there's a movie up now from Rock and Ice, which is actually quite good. To see it revisit the article here: http://rockandice.com/...cher-dominates-field

SWeet!
He thought the gerks would approve.

It definitely dialed up hiz win into teh radness category.
Not gonna lie, I would have laffed a bit if he fell from the devil horn pose.

No way. It was super bomber. I barely got established on the headwall and needed to work out the pump. I figured that it was now or never.

Nice catch on the overhanging ice btw.

Yeah, that slip was really no big deal.

they are not sure how yore arm stayed attached to yore body.

Hah! That is grate reporting!

To see it revisit the article here: http://rockandice.com/...cher-dominates-field

this was definitely teh impression that I got ass well.

That's the thing. I mean, at some point it's time to move on, Nathan won and the climbing did the talking. THis article was complimentary in a backhanded sort of way.

The thing that stinks though, is that if Nathan had come in like 5th or lower, you know the article about the top three would have been 100% different. About how the rad guys are so rad, how the talent level at the top was amazing, some guy onsighting m11 the previous week, etc.

The dark horse was a great theme to run with on this one but I do think he blew it by not giving chossy enough credit for getting it done, and those other guys too much pro ball gargling.

I didn't read it that way. In my mind I had Morgan Freeman telling a climbing fable about this plucky upstart that didn't listen when people said he had no chance.

I hear that Gripped Magazine is getting the exclusive!

Lets just hope the editor doesn't misspell Nathan's last name and say he's from Michigan again. That crazy Gus. Crazy
