I forgot about the the aggressive pit bull at Potrero Chico. That thing was scary! Pit bulls are trained to be mean. I've seen bears at Tuolumne Meadows But they never attacked. I also have encountered a mountain lion and snakes, but I walked away. Best advice, share your food, leave them alone and don't act scared they can smell fear!

In Bolivia, dogs are a real problem. Rabies is pretty common here so, if you get bit, you're looking at shots plus a blood plasma based treatment unless you've had the vaccine. The blood supply isn't really secure here so getting bit by a dog can ruin your day. Rocks and pepper spray are effective deterrents. In Wyoming, I was harassed by aggressive cows near Vedawoo which was both scary and embarrassing. In the eastern Sierra while walking out after dark, we went through a field of sleeping cows which would bolt in random directions when awoken. Again, a little silly but still scary.

Jay hey i was bitten by a bat too!!! put my hand into a crack at the top of a climb and the damn thing got me when it flew out. as for other animals, i get bears, cougars, coyotes, and lots of other wildlife through the yard. actually had a bear in the garage....left the garage open to get the lawnmower out and the bear wandered in.........at 300 in the afternoon!!! Where in WA do YOU live?! The most we've gotten was a couple deer in our yards. And I live in Granite Falls... kinda BFE. i split my time between wa state (tri cities) and british columbia. it's in bc where i see all the wild life

She was bitten on a Saturday. The following day, Sunday, she emailed her doctor asking if she could wait till Monday to start the series. Five minutes later he calls the house and tells her to go the ER *now*. She was pissed that they wouldn't let her take home the vaccine so that she could self-administer the shots, like they'd do in Russia. Oh, and the bill for the initial ER visit: $3000. For a fucking rabies shot and a tetanus shot. Anyone who thinks the health care system in the US is working has their head up their ass. Jay

Jay i went to emergency...it was a sunday. the attending doc reported it to the provincial health dept. my gp called the next day and started the shots. i was surprised at how much the series of shots cost. the gp, quoted me the 3000 number, but being in canada it was covered.
