I just finished watching the movie Sub Zero. I think it just may push Cliff Hanger out of the running for the worst climbing movie. It looked as though they even used the same prop for the crevase as the one from Vertical Limit. The Pakistan gun base that was used on the movie K2 seems to be the one they used as a supposed base on the side of K2. They even had not a bolt gun, but a gun that shot a piton across and stuck in the rock with climbing rope attached. Enough ranting.....it just sucked.

I watched Sub Zero the other night with a bunch of friends and lots of alcohol... One of the best climbing-comedy's I have seen. The best part was the scene where they are caught in a blizzard. One of the climber-dudes draws his ice axe and yells "I can do this, belay me!" and then proceeds to huck himself onto his face on flat ground and thrashes around with his ice axe. We must have rewinded this part 5 times. Buddy who is supposed to be belaying is just messing around the coil of rope, until climber-dude actually falls into a crevasse, at which point, he just throws the rope away entirely. Classic stuff. Watch it. Oh ya, in the final scene, watch for the pine trees in the background at 28 000 feet. K2 must have had a good growing season that year..

They're playing this movie over and over, on the Outdoor Show Channel. On the same time-slot as the soaps, and also after midnight. My wife watched part of mountain scenes. She thought the hilly scenery was just hills. And where was that "piton pistol" stowed in the guy's kit? And how did the piton actually find that crack? And who would be so stupid as to jump over the edge of a cliff to rescue your girlfriend? And that parachute? ?? ??? Huh? She's never been on a glacier, but she recognized the schlockiness of the action in and out of the crevasse rescue. Neither one of us has seen the final scene. The Show Channel is also showing Polar Storm, Sea Patrol, and Lost Girl. Over and over.
