I'm looking to get some static rope, specifically Sterling HTP Static 7/16''. I want to be sure that the rope is dry treated. The representative told me that Polyester rope is water phobic and that they have never dry treated a polyester rope. Will this rope be safe and durable if or when it gets rained on?

When I did search and rescue full time we used polyester ropes (I think we used sterling htp statics in fact) in our swiftwater kits because the fibers don't absorb much water. These ropes will be fine in the water, well, at least assuming your using it as intended.

Just some useful info regarding polyester vs nylon ropes... http://www.canyoneeringusa.com/...-polyester-vs-nylon/ What are you using the rope for? I've climbed on wet ropes before (raining) and it isn't really an issue, wet rock creates greater challenges than wet rope

Am I the only one that can't read anything this guy writes without my subconcious screaming "TROLL!"? I mean, even when there is nothing really trolly about his posts, his origins were just too trolly for him not to be trollin'.

My subconscious mind screams "troll," but it is overridden by conscious mind screaming "idiot." Jay

Very unsafe. If even one drop of water hits a rope, especially pollyester, you will definitely die. Wait. You're not dating Polly Ester, are you?

Did you read the information on the Sterling web site:
Sterling website wrote: 100% polyester static kernmantle construction that is lightweight and offers super low-elongation. Hydrophobic, making it a great choice for working around water Ideal for lightweight fixing, anchors, and taglines Great for caving, rock, and rescue teams Certified to NFPA 1983, 2006 - Personal Escape Note: tracer colors are subject to change. Holy cow. It says the answer right there unless "great choice for working around water" is not good enough for you.

You're actually expecting intelligence from someone who intentionally calls themselves "p8ntballsk8r" and has a reputation for either trolling or asking moronic questions? How quaint!

I always expect the worse in people but it's hard to resist taking a post like that seriously and then commenting about how idiotic it is. Heck, marc801 means as much to me as sk8bowler or whatever his name is. Dave
