hi! new poster from norway here. My GF and I are trying to find a good place for sports climbing this christmas. We are doing routes up to 5.11. We have already been to thailand (railay, phi phi),tenerife (canary islands), El Chorro, Kalymnos, Sardinia, Barcelona, Mallorca and we are looking for other places to go. If the crag is close to a beach it would be great, sunny places are never wrong. many routes in the lower range..

any tips where to go?...

Although I've never been there personally, Kalymnos Greece would be at the top of my list.

edit to add: nevermind, it looks like you've now edited your post to say that you've been to kalymnos, maybe Mallorca, The Kayman Islands, or The Canary Islands?

I'm not sure where you're travelling from, but El Potrero Chico is a good sport-climbing destination. Lots and lots of routes, many multi-pitch in the sub 5.11, lots even in the sub-5.10 range.

Unfortunately, no beach. Just desert.

Just try a different part of the mediterranean. Turkey, maybe, another area of spain, portugal. Not sure what the winters in Morroco are like ,but worth a look. Or go back to SE asia, Vietnam or chaing mai.

El Potrero Chico in northern Mexico is what you're looking for. Mexico has a low cost airline you can use to spend a few days at one of their fine beach resorts.

The other prime winter areas by the sea in the Med are San Vito lo Capo in Sicily and the Calanques in France.
San Vito has one of the best beaches in Italy and loads of easier routes BUT you wouldnīt get me near the water around Christmas, it isnīt that warm! Maybe for a Norwiegen itīs perfect though.
The alternative to flying half way round the world and the associated jet-lag is South Africa.

In spite of what you see in the media, everything in Hidalgo and the Potrero Chico is very peaceful. The season is getting going and we have climbers here now from the USA, Canada, Slovakia, England and Costa Rica.

I'll second Ed's description of Potrero and think it would be a great place to visit. Don't worry about the lack of a beach, there is plenty of sun.

Moderate long routes is one thing the Potrero is known for.
