Does anyone know anything about the new bolts and bolt anchor that were put up next to Gargoyle? My partner and I were out there this weekend and noticed them. Who ever did this should really rethink their actions. The bolted anchor is completely unnecessary. The down climb is not bad at all and you can build a bomber gear anchor there. Sorry to get on my soap box but its sad to see thoughtless bolting on the rock.

Are you talking about the route Canilizo? It's been there for a long time, though it's anchor might be more recent.

You'll probably get more responses over on supertopo.

I remember there being a bolted route on either side of Gargoyle. Well clear of the Gargoyle crack, not squeezes by any means. I used a gear anchor in the top of Gargoyle for both Gargoyle and Canalizo. [urlhttp://mountainproject.com/v/canalizo/105857574 looks like there used to be a bolt anchor on Canalizo. Don't know if it was original or not. It's been a trend in Joshua Tree over the last few years, many of those '60 favorite trad climbs' routes have sprouted bolted anchors.
