You nailed it far better than I. One of my principal complaints for years has been the stranglehold the AMGA has had on the industry, not too mention the massive conflict of interest.
Well put. Thank you for making my point in a far more concise manner than I could muster.
One other point. The AMGA has become nothing more than a guide school with a choke hold on the land managers. Period. And boy do their minions walk in lockstep with their "philosophy".
This is the very reason I quit Search and Rescue. We went from a team of climbers, to the NASAR SAR TECH 2 (or whatever). Suddenly I was having to certify people who were overweight, out of shape, and had zero experience on the rock. But, as long as they could tie a knot or two, rig a simple system, I had to tie in with them on technical rescues.

What I found to be the most disturbing was not the individuals themselves, it was the fact that they were being encouraged to engage in an activity they had absolutely no business participating in.
That SPI class is no different.

Yup this is true. My guess is that we will never hear the true details. For one, guide schools absolutely don't want their clients getting hurt at the hands of their guides. Second, they certainly don't want the guides decking either.
It's not good for business.
Hope the guys ok. 60 feet is a long fall.
I took a 50 footer on an aid climb once and figured I was going to the deck. I was 300 feet off the ground at the time, but I just kept going and going, and feeling the gear ripping. You'd be surprised, that kind of fall is not over as fast as you might think. I had more than enough time to contemplate my fate.

Yup - In addition to not being allowed in this forum (especially the A & I forum), homophobic slurs are lame. I don't care if it's a longstanding tradition. It's still lame.
