I mean, if he were to land in the western half, he would be in striking distance of sweet climbing in CO. I suspect work would be found on the opposite side of the state though.

Other than Red Sox updates from my ESPN ap, I have no idea what's going on in the world.

So, to get this straight, Brazil is having a social gathering, Calgary has been separated from the mainland by an earthquake, and Kansas still, and always will, suck.

Is that about right?

You moved to a tropical rain forest, right?

actually, where I'm at it's a very large forest, yes, but it's not rain forest. It's mostly pine (a different kind of pine, of course, but not rain forest).

It rains here because of the elevation. The weather comes to where Curitiba is (the city) and runs against the plateau and drops all the rain here. It's not raining an hour around us in most directions.

which is a good thing.

It's funny, the last straw that started the protests was the increase in the transporation fare in certain cities. Now all the cities that didn't lower the fares earlier this year (and actually increased them instead) have lowered the fares (including Curitiba...woooo!!!).

The politicians thought this would end the protests, but the protesters aren't protesting that any more (and in fact weren't after something like the second day). Now they want an end to corruption and the reestablishment of exercised rights.

However, the right-wing media never reports this stuff and now it is. This is worrying.

so there was supposed to be a protest here in curitiba tonight. It's pouring rain, so i doubt it will happen, but the protest wasn't supposed to be a walking one, but actually a huge potluck dinner (seriously) in one of the parks. Now, the lady works maybe a 15min walk from there. She was going to take her students to the protest (something that's become fashionable here - teachers cancelling night classes so the students can march with everyone else). Yesterday's protest went right by where the lady works, and the protests here have been peaceful.

So that's the details. But now, on a night with pouring rain, on a night when the march isn't supposed to move...the buses suddenly stopped running (and then started again sometime after), the college the lady teaches at cancelled all classes and evacuated the building, and confusion about what kind of protest is actually going to occur are all suddenly happening.

The lady seems to have a strange feeling at the moment. It's bizarre.

In any case, I'm glad that she's going home. Her son, however, is still going.

It's the opposite problem here. Whole towns in New Mexico are out of water, completely. Here in Page, AZ it is dry and 98* on the shores of Lake Powell which loses enough water to evaporation to save all of those towns in NM. Quite the contrast to have houseboats full of rich Texans wasting ginormous amounts of gas to flit around what used to be Glen Canyon.

I made a bomb of vinegar and baking soda in a pill bottle, but couldn't get close enough to the dam to bring it all down and make Edward Abbey proud.

Tomorrow we go back of beyond in Grand Staircase with just the truck, 4WD may come in handy. That is all.
