Nearby is a realative term. Not close enough to commute. So we'd have to relocate. But within 100 miles of family. So we can see family for holiday and random weekends.

Some friends have been able to stay local. Some of them taking sig pay cuts to do so. Some friends are moving across the country. Many to areas with zero rock climbing and skiing.
But you got to do what you got to do.

good news: sold five made-to-order oil pastel on glass paintings.

bad news: the family member of a friend wants me to be at the wedding (thus the purchases)

good news: I'm going to a wedding in the US.

bad news: I need more family members to get me to more weddings (thus more purchases)

So we'll see how this prospect pans out.

Yeah, well, keep the options open I guess. Family being closer might actually mean more climbing because then it would mean fewer committed weekends (I'm assuming, but I can see the other side, too).

Let me try again, dang internet crashed.
It would be oil and gas, but a large industrial facility. Which are where my skills and experience lie. So far the local equipment manufactures have taken a pass on me, and my coworkers too.

After 9 days in Golden, and 3 days of actively looking, we are finally locating houses/cabins in the area that fit our price budget for renting. We are looking at a house on 41 acres this afternoon, just a couple miles off I-70 but in the foothills of Golden.

And a post on the Taco has already led to a job offer. I'll meet with the guy early next week once we put the RV in storage and start staying with the wife's cousin 1/2 hour west of Boulder.

Apparently, the better parts of my reputation precede me.

As for now, I'll just have to continue floating the Clear Creek Whitewater Park in my $20 inflatable tube like its my job.

No climbing here yet, I have had a pinched nerve or something which is giving me shooting pains down my whole left leg and its painful to walk.

The cool creek water feels good on it though...
