has anyone heard anything about little stony man being closed to climbers? i went there and a ranger hassled us b/c of some endangered plant on the cliffs?? anyone heard anythign?

I was there May 10, 2015, and I saw several signs by each climbing area there at Little Stony Man cliffs that stated
In reply to: "Area closed to off-trail use within 30 yards to either side of sign. Violators are subject to fines and/or arrest. Thank you for helping to protect fragile resources."
There were a few more signs near the climbing walls saying the same thing. I asked two climbers if they knew if it meant no climbing. They said they didn't know, but they knew that many websites (like this one perhaps) and many published books state you can climb Little Stony Man cliffs. I'll try to call the park service to ask them, because many websites and publications and outdoor book sellers will need to correct their publications if climbing is banned there.
Also, the national park service there looks like they may need to change their own web page about rock climbing:

I emailed both Shenandoah National Park service and a guide company that says they guide climbs at Little Stony Man Cliffs (http://www.goshenandoah.com/...-climbing-rappelling) and they didn't give me specific info about Little Stony Man cliffs, but they did explain why those endangered plants on the rock faces around the park are being protected:

We do not know where the Guide take the rock climbers as they base it on their experience levels. I am not sure what Park Service has posted but our guide is contracted through us and we have to get approval through the National Park Service. Perhaps, the sign means that an individual can not proceed to do the rock climbing unless you are under supervision of our guide. You may want to contact the Park Service for more details in regards to their sign.

On the National Park Service Website, in their link to their Rock Climbing brochure (pdf file), it states that there are permanent closures at Little Stony Man cliffs and shows a little map of those closed areas
