Hi all,

I have been thinking about making a trip in the next year or two, so I am trying to narrow down some places. I saw on a thread a while back about going to western China, and that has really stuck in my head since it would be more in my budget.

I saw Salewa is giving away a lot of trips: http://newsdailynow.com/2015/11/11/salewa/ Those places have really peaked my interest as well. I have entered, and hopefully have a shot at it. Does anyone have experience at any of the places that they're offering?

I look forward to hearing your responses, and would love any first hand feedback.

thanks!

I have no direct experience with any of the places listed in the Salewa giveaway (or competition? I don't understand how it works). The only thing that came to mind was that they are likely very expensive places. You mentioned Western China as a budget destination, so I though it was odd that you were also considering these big budget European destinations. Does Salewa pay for all expenses?

As to your original question, which is pretty difficult to answer: probably Thailand. It has a combination of amazing scenery, great food, friendly people, pretty beaches, and fun moderate climbing that appeals to me. It's also very cheap, allowing you to stretch your trip for a long time (and even explore other Southeast Asian countries).

I'm a little jealous and excited for you. Enjoy the trip wherever you end up!

I would only consider the Salewa destinations if I won any of them, as you are correct in that they are very expensive destinations. Salewa pays for everything, and I think 12 people win each destination.

Anyways, if i don't win, then I would like a cheaper places and Thailand is a great recommendation. I don't know how i didn't think of it, since i love their food. And you can't argue this.. http://cdn.betches.com/...images/thailand2.jpg Thanks for the advice.

umph, that is a nice pic.

I'd have to say I'd lean less towards somewhere like Thailand and more towards somewhere like Greenland or Baffin, though. Or the Karakoram or something? Trango or something, maybe?

Or maybe antarctica? REeeeeeee

I always wanted to go to Greenland. Or maybe Iceland during salmon season.

It used to be so much fun here. I used to have "spirited discussions" with JT512 and others. Even though we often disagreed, I respect him.

Sorry for mixing things up.

How long would you go on this trip? I like two places in particular. One you noted, Thailand. Although the boat is parked in what may be a closed area (the bird nest takers have exclusive use of much of those towers). I would suggest Chiang Mai in northern THailand as a great stop too.

The other favorite place is in southern Europe. Spain, southern France/Verdon and the Dolomites in Italy. You can spend little or more, depending on budget.

Either way I'd recommend a month overseas at least.
