I have the good luck to have acces to a trio of cannon xl-1's and a nice editing system at my job. thus im working on a climbing video. so my question to you all is what would you like to see in a climbing video? (besides cute climbing bettys) what things make a video stand out in you r mind?
i know this might be better posted under the photograhy forum, however i am going to post it here.

Exposure...I want to see exposure and moves. Cram a ton of spectacular moves in there. Gear management.

people placing gear on routes at or near their limit...always makes for great footage! One of the best sequences I ever saw in a video was Ron Kauk on Equinox, 5.12 in Joshua Tree: it was called "The Art of Leading" by John Long & you really got a feel for that climb. Exposure on a route is great but I'd also enjoy seeing routes in some less travelled areas...

Failure! I think that some of the better videos that I have seen show good climbers NOT making it on the first try. I like to see the process; I want to see a climber struggle and get into the working of the sequences, especially when they fail at it. It makes them seem more human. I also like to see the comeraderie associated with the sport, especially on boulder problems. Seeing a group of people spotting and cheering someone on reminds you of the social aspects of the sport.

At this point in time i am thinking that it will be almost exclusively bouldering for a number of reasons. (mostly easier to get more camera angles anbd also i am not sure i want to try to take those cameras any farther off the ground than i have to. Greater altitude=bigger crunch) anyway, My next thought goes to music. I am thinking about some original technoish stuff or perhaps some classical ??? What's ya'lls take?

In regards to the music, I would say not to try and put in anything too 'out there' just because some of the climbing videos I've seen have included music that most people probably haven't ever heard, and it just didn't fit in at all, especially since they played it way too loud. Of course music is a highly selective things from most peoples point of view, so there will always be people that don't like it. Sometime just the natural sounds of people grunting and yelling during the process of the climb is best.

yea dude, failing at bouldering problems will be a great one, and i am not saying that clip of me falling off of the "Laurana bobit" boulder will fit in nice seeings the look on my face was hilarious. music... i do agree with some of the grunting, as long as its not the fake stuff. i think it will be a good video (besides the fact that i am in it). and we need plenty of those dyno shots on the wall in the back yard as well as some others around like up at the gap etc. ttyl dude -
