So GearExpress has Edelweiss, 10.5 x 60M dry rope for $110. This seems awfully cheap. Is it a good rope? The URL is: http://www.gx.starvedrockoutfitters.com/cgi-bin/miva?Merchant2/merchant.mv+Screen=PROD&Store_Code=G&Product_Code=5111&Category_Code=EDELW I've seen ropes with the same stats for $200 at REI, and I'm wondering why this would be almost half the price. Thanks for the info.

I bought that rope from gear express also, and have been satisfied so far. I only wished it was bi-patern or marked in the middle. But for the price, you can't go wrong.

Cool. I figured Edelweiss was a good rope, I always hear about it and see it everywhere. Thanks a lot for all of your input, I think I'm gonna buy it.

I got that rope from GX also. Been climbing on it a couple of times. I like it better than any other rope I have climbed on so far. The only downside? The gay colors. RJ

You can get a 70m that changes pattern in the middle but it's like $165. I'm about to get one myself.

thats a great deal .. good deals can be found on rope all the time.. my first rope is a sterling 10.2 x 60m .. non-dry .. .. it was a good deal for $85 or $90 at the yosemite mtn store (they were having a sale) .. .. though when i buy my next trad rope its going to be by-patterned .. i just hate having to find the middle of my rope during single rope raps!.. -- ricardo

I have that rope. I will warn you that it is VERY stiff. The back up knot on the figure 8 knot has come undone a few times. Other than that, it really is a nice rope.

I have tried them both (Edelweiss Stratus 8000+ Dry and Mammut Super safe Dry) the only thing I can say I didn’t like the ware time they got both ware through VERY FAST only one season of rock and TR… very disappointing… The ropes that ware really well were Blue water Accelerator (3 years of constant abuse) and Sterling Marathon(5 years of regular rock and ice climbing) also Maxim gave a great performance But it could be me and my bad luck with

Eidelweis ropes are solid, but could be a litte stiff. I'm thinking of going a little thinner and better flex. But if this is you first rope, or you are brutal on them, then yes, buy it. It's worth it

I like my Edelweiss 10.5mm x50m but don't waste your money on a "dry" rope the dry treatment wears off fast.Save yourself some money and get a non-dry rope and treat it yourself.I'm going to try scotch guard on an old rope and see if it waterproofs it and I'll see if it hurts the nylon.
