The same question was asked in the Gearheads (?) forum about a week ago. http://www.rockclimbing.com/forums/viewtopic.php?topic=25226&forum=40

C is for Clean Aid climbing... There is a trend toward using gear that will not mar the rock, instead of "nailing up" a line with pitons, the removal of which leaves "pin scars", etc. Clean Aid uses any gear that will not mar the rock. [ This Message was edited by: rrradam on 2003-02-11 11:09 ]

Quote: Clean Aid uses any gear that will not mar the rock. Clean refers to any gear that is placed without the use of a hammer. See cam-hook/ sandstone debates...

Gotcha... Thanx. Aid is a little outside my area of interest.

Guys, this post is redundant. You can find out everything you never wanted to know here: Ask Dr. Piton ... about aid ratings. Before you ask a question that has already been answered, it might pay to check the Index to Dr. Piton Stuff. [this post could be deleted at the liberty of the [font color=maroon]moderator]

Oh, c'mon, just let people ask. If others don't want to reply, that is their prerogative. This discussion of what to do with redundant threads has raged plenty of times around here. So wigglestick points to a possible answer, rrradam gives his own, copperhead adds to it, what's the harm? Without this exchange, some people might never have noticed the technical difference Bryan pointed out. I don't think that is such a bad thing to have happen.
