I have noticed a lot of people are sick of the weather in their own areas and are planning trips to T-Wall. I thought I should post the latest closures, which will occur in April. Please obey these closures. The T-Wall is closed on the following dates: April 1-6, 8-10, 17-19 and 22-27. Call to confirm before making the trip: (423) 658-9201 (800) 262-6704 If the toll free does not work, call the other one!

Thanks Jeff! Hope you are doing well - Jeremy and I along with 4 other climbers will be down there from March 14-19 (planning on spending a couple days at Twall) I know Twall is having a trail day on the 15th so we will probably be there on the 17th? Will you be climbing at all during this period - if so let me know and we can hook up. Take care! Kevin

Jeff - I heard something about a trail day on either the 15th or 16th - does this mean the Wall will be closed to climbing? If it is open we could meet up with you for some climbing on the weekend! Don't worry this isn't a gathering there will be 6 of us! Take care Jeff.

Kirk is organizing a Trail Day for March 15 http://server502.hypermart.net/seclimbers/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?s=3e5cdeadb13bffff;act=ST;f=1;t=673 Climbing will not be closed during the trail day, but I highly discourage climbing while others are busting their tail to fix up trails. Many that get there early and work in the morning will be climbing after lunch. If you are set on a whole day climbing March 15 and have no intention of helping out, I would recommend going to Sunset that day and back to T-Wall before or after the trial day. Those that do help out usually get free lunch and walk away with some good prizes. L.J. www.seclimbers.org

Lawrence - no disrespect intended, I agree with you that walking by people busting their hump on the trail to go climbing is rude. However, we are driving for 12 hours [each way} to climb for only 4 days.... As such I think we will climb Twall (Jeff) on the 16th if you are there look for the pasty white Canadians and Bostonians....

Jeff, I figured that if they were driving all the way down they wouldn't be interested in giving up valuable climbing time to work on a trail day at a crag they rarely visit. That is why I suggested Sunset as an alternative for the day of March 15 so as not to annoy those that are working on the trails and other tasks. If they are interested in lesser traveled trad lines or clipping bolts, Fosters is another close alternative. L.J. www.seclimbers.org

Cool, but you realize there probably WILL be people walking right by you, and there won't be a thing you can do other than glare at them and tell them to have a terrible day! :x

Just out of curiosity, what is the reason for the closure?? Nexting birds? Hunting season? Native American religious activities? The chosen dates just seem really odd.

Thanks for the comment Ridgerunner- I live in Canada and am very much looking forward to my trip down to Twall and Foster's in 2 weeks - I do actively participate in trail building days here (for rock climbing and mountain biking) but I feel uncomfortable being chastised by people for not helping to work on a trail when I have just driven 12+ hours to climb for 4 days.

Actually, people have always walked by on trail days and climbed. It's just the way it is. There will be plenty of places they will be able to go where the workers aren't. The best approach is to at least hold out a trash bag and say, "hey, think you guys could take this and pick up a few things while you're down there?" or "could you give me a hand here a second?" if they take the bag, it's better than nothing. If not, well, T-Wall is huge. And it's public land. If we get confrontational in any way at these events we could end up hurting ourselves and our image. Or worse.

LOTS of canadians and other folks come from far away to visit here, you'd think they would want to do a little something, just a few minutes at the trail day. We mountain spirits all stick together pretty much, and we'd kind of appreciate it if climbers would consider all crags as worthy of a little help with repairing the damage you all do to us. We like to be climbed on, actually it tickles, but do give back just a little OK? Your home crag's spirit will know what you did and be glad.

Perhaps a telling of "the" story is in order. 2 years ago, some guys from N.Y. decided to visit T-Wall. They arrived during a hunt. They claim the hunt warning sign wasn't up. I saw the sign with my own eyes in the bushes next to the trail about 2 weeks later. In a nutshell, they climbed on a hunt day and got caught. They got tickets, hefty ones. After they got back home, they wrote to Climbing Magazine and bitched and whined about how "unfairly" they were treated. I met one of them in the Linville/Table Rock parking lot that summer and had to listen to him and his girlfriend talk about how stupid we are down here, inbred, idiots, blah, blah, blah. Even after I told him I live here, he wouldn't shut up. It really fu@ing pissed me off. The rangers didn't like the letters to Climbing, either. As a matter of fact, we are LUCKY we can even still climb there. This incident did lots of damage to locals, didn't matter to the N.Y. guys, since the one at Table Rock said "I'll never return to your stupid state again!!" That's why I put this on here. OBEY THE CLOSURES PLEASE.
