Hey all...i'm sad to announce my days of freedom and pachouli are pretty much over and done with for a while... Rifle is now a memory, as i'm smack-dab in the middle of the valley of the sun aka Phoenix. I miss the wilderness...i miss the canyon...i miss a lot of things... :( In Rifle i could inhale mountain air...Now i'm stuck sucking car exhaust waiting in trafic on the 1 hour commute to work...i use to walk to work thru a little mountain town... Instead of working for a down to earth, family run pottery business, i'm working in a corporate setting...i have a title now, and have to wear suits... i thought i would be living out of a truck on the road a few months ago...now i'm feeling STUCK. Change is inevitable i guess.... (sorry for whining...just needed to get it out i guess)

lilred, do not complain. at least you are nearer to the vast wilderness of the intermountain west then I am in dallas. I even had to cancell my long anticipated trip to southern utah over spring break; too much work to do and not anough money. hehe. yer a yippie. we'll have to climb sometime this summer, though. I am going to be living out of my car then for sure.

"To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn) There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)..." 1) Get wasted and forget your problems for the evening. 2) Straighten up and figure out how long you want to put up with them. What are you, an indentured servant? You get to decide. You're one of the lucky ones.

lilred, keep in mind that the average person changes careers at least 3 times (if not more) in their lifetime. take what ya got and roll with it. enjoy, work hard, earn money, and plan the next move. you still have plenty of time for your own choice of business ahead. cheers, -k.

I was a hippy with a yuppie job for 6 years. You can get around it. Really you can. The trick is to gain respect with your superiors, then add little hippy effects to your clothing/cell...er...cubicle gradually. You can't do lots and lots and lots at any point (even if your window DOES have that nice Southern exposure, it's not advisable to bring your best pot plant ... er ... fern to the office), but little bits here and there will at least make you feel a wee bit more comfy. I even got to the point where I was wearing Birkenstocks to work pretty regularly and no-one complained. But this, too, shall pass, babe. You'll probably reach a point where you go in one of two ways: you'll decide you can put up with it (taking advantage of the Man to achieve your own goals), or that you can't take it (like me). If you CAN take it, then you're subverting the system from within, and getting paid to do it, which ain't a bad gig. If you CAN'T take it, then there will be something else out there for you. The universe tends to work that way, after all. ;) It'll work out. And you're not a sellout. You've got to put food on the table somehow. k.

I rattle my cubicle wall in solidarity! No worries, just think of the threads as a costume. You're still the same inside and nobody can take that away my Norman sister.
