Check out the highest rated pics here. I'm no pro, but it looks like getting close to the climber, and with an awesome view in the background getrs the best pics. Also, you gotta know how to use the camera itself. :) You might try PMing climbnow1 and asking, because he's just about the best I've seen. Orangeoverhang is really good too. :)

I really like shots that show the beauty of the rock and the lines of the climbers body, ropes, clouds etc.
I don't really care what the grade of the climb is, the exposure of the route, or the expression of focus on a climbers face, or the sheer beauty of a place make the shot. I do not consider myself any kind of good photographer, but I know what I appreciate in a photo. The above mentioned photographers are great. Also check out mreardon's photos, and pinscar's photos. There are a ton of great shots on this site.
