In reply to:  Man that Jackalope looks evil! Sport climbing is just like solving a puzzle but, multi pitch Trad climbing is more like going on an spotaneous trip to a place you have never been. You go into the unknown withe the skills that you posess. Not knowing what the outcome may be but, you know that you have prepared for this journey. Armed and ready you head into the unknown. Sounds like my road trip, good analogy 8) lots of energy. :!:

What drew me to trad climbing is simple. It's one word. Adventure. I will always remember that first trad lead. It was as if a whole new world opened up before me. It was freedom. I could do what I wanted, go where I wanted, but at the same time there was only one way to go, up and with the route. Hope that helps. Cheer's

Any self respecting trad climber couldn't pass up the chance to contribute to this post. The love I have for cracks comes from the true freedom I can experence in the mountains. I take only what I need and (try to) leave nothing behind. The way you go isn't determined by a bolt above you but the line you choose. It's natures way of offering a flaw in otherwise perfect rock faces. To keep it short, when I'm busy climbing a crack, I can leave all the other worries of the world on the ground. Every gear placement and hand placement is unique to me. Every crack feels like a first asscent. Nothing like climbing a mountain of rock with a splitter crack, eh? :)

I just like the feel and look of climbing with all that gear hanging over my shoulder. Plus it gives you something to spend your $ on.

Adventure. Almost any rock. Almost anytime. We don't do it because it is easy, we do it because it is hard. These are my thoughts on the subject. Dave
