Hey there fellow rock climbers, some of the guys that I climb with including myself are thinking of doing some climbing out at Killarney Provincial Park. We are looking for any insite as too what gear to bring to climb the crack. Can it be top ropped and what should one use, how much of it is needed etc... If anyone has some insite post a message. Not to mention anyone is more then welcome to join us.

Last summer I climbed a few great routes in Killarney. On George lake there was really good climbing, the south side of the lake is granite, while the north side is quartzite. So choose your rock. I would suggest a canoe to approach the routes. There is a cirque at the northside that you can walk around in and climb, a few good lines, but the rock has a heavy lichen factor. Two great lines on a granite face across the strait, you need a boat for these.
All throughout the park there is climbing but the best is on george lake, there was some I did a long time ago by the big crack when heading east on the la cloche trail from george lake. So have fun, oh yeah, there is plenty of cliffs to dive off as well. Dave Smart's book "Fifty classic climbs of Ontario" has info. but no more than what I told you.

Well it was supposed to be early in the summer like July but things got busy and me and some friends could not go... however I'd still love to go and I know 3 other people that would come as well all with gear just no trad gear. Hoping to go this summer anytime on the weekend.

from what i remeber from killarney on previous caneo trips is that most of the routes are like two pitches, so if ya don't have trad gear or trad experiance i would be very carful. i even think some of the top rope set up were pretty scetchy, and also ya gotta think about the remotness of the locations potentially very dangerous.

From what I was told from some friends that had went, they had done some top rope climbs. No sport climbs avail. Trad would be the safest way. However top rope is possible. They slinged around some near by trees. Sorry I don't have any photo's.
