Ballation... The guide with the dead bird on the front was the THIN WHITE LINE, which was the OLD guidebook for the SEWARD HIGHWAY. The out of print guidebook for ARCHANGEL VALLEY climbs is behind the counter at AMH, but they won't sell it. They have two copies, they let me borrow one and I ran off a copy of the routes pages. I will enter the BETA into the dBase here so it will be available to all. If you need equipment while you are here, there is a small store called WINDY CORNER in Wasilla, but I HIGHLY RECOMMEND visiting AMH for your gear needs. REI is right across the street, but the folks at AMH are A1, friendly great people that ACTUALLY CLIMB!!! LOOKING FORWARD to seeing you all...

Windy corner has a very limited gear selection. They refuse to stock quickdraws, no matter how many times I go in there asking for them. Still in Hawaii right now, heard it's nice and warm in Alaska too. Can't wait to get home though.

ok, here's a schedule, shopping list for me, and the names from the site of those who said they were coming. http://www.morffed.com/climbingtrip.htm Check that out, suggest revisions, give your name, whatever. Whatever you want to make the trip perfect. :)

I might actually be up for this! A guy I'm with is going back to Alaska to guide all summer (May-Aug) so I was going to try to get up there for a week or two and visit. Never been there, heard it's gorgeous. And I would love to be up there for the summer solstice. What's the nearest airport, Fairbanks? Also, how far are these areas from Denali NP??

nearest is Ted Stevens Anchorage Internation Airport. About an hour from my house, a half-hour from Polarwid's, and about an hour and a half from Hatcher's Pass. Be great if you can make it. :D

Well I took a job with the Forest Service in Girdwood, so I should be around to join everyone for the gathering. I'll get the details later. Thomer

John, It's looking good. You are doing a great job! Remember that I plan on hitting the beach and draggin up some "stinky old dead salmon." We ought to eat them sooner than later. (hmmmmm? they'd keep longer if i could get them smoked) Anyway, wanted to let you know I'll be out of the planning loop for a little bit. I leave tonight and go to Moab for a month of rockin. Wish me luck. Adam, Think we could get this on the "Upcoming Events" list on the site? cya all soon.

thought I already saw it on upcoming events once. hmm. So, fish for dinner the first few days... How is that best cooked? remember, my house has a grill on the deck, but it's a half-hour drive from Hatcher's, so is there a good way we can cook fish over a fire without leaving camp?

I'm thinking what I'll do is just buy enough food, and we can decide what to eat when the time comes. :) Sound good to you all? The time is coming closer. You southern folks have your tickets yet? I'm expecting a great time. Can't wait. :D

hahahaha, hilareous. who knows I might be down. if i'm not out on a glacier or on a mountain I just might have to check it out. ps-salmon cooks up great over a fire. just bring it up to hatcher's with you in a cooler and cook it on hot rocks near the fire, did it a couple days ago like that, worked very well.

It's almost here...I am definitely stoked. Unfortunately, due to work (I got a job at the rock gym!) and other responsibilities, I'm going to have to spend time driving back and forth from A-town to Hatcher Pass. Is that going to be feasible? -Winston

Damn, Why didn't I find this sooner? I want to come!!!! Problem is, I am in Fairbanks - and no car. Is there a cheap way to get to Anchorage? I can fly right now for ~$200, and the web specials are running ~$160, but this is really too much for a poor college student. The train is even more expensive. Any Ideas? Wishing I had a car :? EDIT: If it makes any difference, I am only available on the weekends; I think the best for me would be to leave after work on friday the 20th, and come back sun the 22nd (already have my 2 weeks off allocated to going home to idaho and climbing)

Not too sure about travel from Fairbanks, as I've never had to do that. I feel ya on the money though... I don't even have a job yet, so I can't drive either, even just down the street. :P Winston: The Alaska Rock Gym? If so, I'll probably see you there sometime, though most likely only on a rainy weekend or around the first snowfall in Hatcher's. ;) Can't wait. This is definately going to be awesome.

Well I went up there today, and the snow is down enough to climb, but archangel road isn't open yet. Hiked all the way back in the valley, but didn't bring my gear, just walked the road. By next month, it'll all be open and we're gonna have some fun. This is a pic taken with a timer by setting the camera on the road, which is still snowy up towards the end. It looks a bit colder than it actually was. ;) http://www.morffed.com/grouphike.jpg

Well I got to Gridwood from the Black Hills of South Dakota. I should be able to make the gathering one of the weekends. I have to work during the week. The thing is my parents decided to take a vacation up here over both those weekends. So I have to figure something out. I really going to try though. If anyone is climbing down on the Seward Highway anytime and don't mind an extra person, could you let me know? I am trying to find people to climb with up here. I get off work at 5:00, so after that would be great.
