Do you pick up other people's trash at your local crag or do you just pack yours out. death to those who just leave it there.

Dude,
this is a big issue for access at my bouldering palace "grindstone". so many people leave their water jugs and tape laying around that the people who own the place want to close it... and in fact have... so i always pick up any trash i see on the paths or around the boulders!

Four or five of us usually get together about once every couple of months and go out to the crags with a pickup and a trashbag. We have cleaned everything from cigarrette butts to refrigerators...

It's worth it to pick up other's people's trash. All those small things -- wrappers, butts, etc -- that litter the area are so easy to remove, and the amount of damage they can do when they accumulate is horrible. It only takes a second to pick up some trash, and it makes a big difference.

The only trash I would ever leave behind is something edible -- not sure if you all agree with me on this or not, but if I have say an apple core or something, I'll let the wild animals eat it.

If I see something I'll pack it out. But, I won't go out of my way looking for trash.

Pick it up - it's leaving crap around that can get access cancelled, it is an eyesore (who wants to climb around garbage?), and sometimes it even attracts unwanted animals looking for hand outs. I'm sure there are other things that garbage does to a nice site, but those are the ones off the top of my head. It takes all of two seconds and less energy than a good grimp to bend over and pick something up. Even if it is just one extra candy wrapper or water bottle or coke can ... that is one less left there.

That's a good point, i never even thought about the animals. Also, if it gets to the point where it starts to stink up the place, well...

Yeah - let's face it. Who wants to peel off a boulder problem and land in ... "what is that?! It's sticky ... and it reeks!"

Personal feelings put aside...

I do Agree with the poster of this topic on this one. People who drop their trash all over the place really gets my neck hair up.
Why spoil the crag for other climbers. I usually have a plastic bag with me and end up cleaning after others.

Death to those who litter...

Pack out what you pack in. There is nothing more upsetting than hiking into your crag and seeing garbage all over the place.

People who do not have the decency to pick up after themselves ought not to be let out of the house!!!!

I'm tired of picking up after people.

there is NO excuse for trash.
it's a matter of respect for Nature and for the next passerby whether animal or human.

littering is a form of communication.
it says that the litterer above the rest of Nature.
if it's not good for all (the old 'if everybody did it too scenario) it's NOT good for one.

be considerate.
realize that you're not alone.
we affect each other inadvertantly and unavoidably.

I just can't stand seeing litter scattered around trails and such. I most often pick it up and curse the litter bug.
The other day I was out hiking and these two city folk decided that since there Starbucks coffee cups were empty they would just leave them by the trail. So I picked them up and carried them out, spilling a little coffee on my hands along the way. Those people disgust me.
