Trek the 2 hour approach, set down my 50 pounds of gear, and get rigged for an .........8 bolt sport route?????? Can't go on-line without adding to the credit card debt. Can't walk through REI without snagging at LEAST a biner or webbing. Anyone else have this affliction? Is there a support group out there? Honestly, you can never have too much gear, right? RIGHT? :? (Where's my Sherpa.......)

guilty. i generally haul around 50lbs for all my trad lines. *sigh* way too much gear. even going to the sport crag, i haul everything but the pro. lol. slings, biners, draws, cordlette, etc.... i cant go to the local store, or any online store without buying something (just bought some stuff from Shoreline yesterday, argh!). my gf just rolls her eyes at me these days. i've been climbing less than a year, and i already own more gear than i can justify! and, i STILL WANT MORE!!!!!!

My most of my family considers themselves minimalists. They can't belive how much stuff I have. I now have 3 backpacks full of climbing gear, much of which I never use. I only have one head, but I have 5 headlamps. Oh, and I really want more. I will likely buy another one when I find one on sale. I suspect it will only get worse before it gets better

AHHHHH!! The thought of unused gear sitting in someone's closet makes me insane!! Oh how my over used Camalots, and manky, MANKY quickdraws yearn to be replaced with shiny new gear-queer stuff. OH, and I have done a 2 hour hike in with full trad/aid gear to do a sport route. In Chattanoota TN, I spied a cliffline from across the valley that appeared to have a large ammount of dihedrals. After a 2 hour hike, assisted by GPS, I finally found the cliff. The Cracks were at least 4 inches wide. There was one obscure sport route established in the 80's. Complete with the suppa shitty bolts. I climbed it with my trad runners. Travis

Hello, my name is Jimmy and I have a problem-- I can't get enough gear. There should be GHA (Gear Heads Anonymous) meetings in major climbing areas and rock gyms. Jimmy

hike two hours w/ 50lbs of gear to do a 8 bolt sport climb? man, im too lazy to walk that far to climb, let alone haul that much gear. Well, it would have to be more then just a sport route for me to put in that much effort like an awsome, must do, once in a lifetime 'trad' line. university keeps me too busy to work and make some extra monies to buy anything for my addicition

I am duskerhu and I am a GEAR-a-HOLIC! I can't stop myself from buying cams and biners when I should be paying off credit card debt. Can a guy EVER have enough gear? Not me!!! And yes, the nearest outdoor climbing to me is a "Sport Crag" with a steep hike in requireing a maximum of 12 draws and a rope. I have and will continue to lug my 50lbs pack up there 'cus there are 8 or 10 chossy cracks up there to lead. Hey, gotta be prepared right? duskerhu

i know how you all feel about all this gear. i too feel the same, my only problem is that i don´t have the cash, so i still have a fairly small rack. i also remember the days when i hauled all of my trad gear to go sport climbing, but i have now changed. i know like to just take what i am going to need for where i am going to climb, and hope that i don´t run into some killer crack that i have never seen before. but if anyone could send me some of that money that your using to be a gear head, i´d greatly apreciate it so that i can be a gear head too.

I definitely qualify. Wait until some of you guys start getting into aid climbing! The need for gear multiplies exponentially. My roommate has A LOT of gear; sport, trad, aid, caving gear, alpine, ice climbing gear...you name it. And he has a vanity license plate that reads "GEARNUT". Dude was terribly disappointed when I moved all my crap and and he realize that I'm the only person he's ever known who has more climbing gear than him. Now THAT's saying something. I need help. Ed

Problem for us in South Africa is that all gear gets imported against a 7-rand dollar and a 14-rand pound so a simple quickdraw here costs the equivalent of $114. Sh*t it's expensive so we have to actually save up before we can buy!

RockMonkey: was that a TYPO???? $114USD for one quickdraw (two biners and a short sewn sling)??? That's about TEN TIMES what bargain draws cost here in California. I gotta buy a bunch of new gear, and go there as a "tourist" next summer (yours, not mine; I'll wait until it gets cold here)

I'm new to the game, but am acquiring gear at a rapid pace considering my dirtbag budget. No credit card debt (refuse to use them), but I will be equipping myself with a climber's wet dream (read: big pile of brand new gear) courtesy of a modest loan to fund 2 month road trip next year (just 373 days left!!! I'm already super excited!!!! My :!: key is stuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) !!!

Philbox has got me beat. I only have 53 cams. But I am guilty of being a gear head. I hold a prestigious record for never going to Wilderness Exchange Unlimited without buying something. Just the other day I was vacuuming my living room and under my couch I found a Wild Country Zero that has never been used before. I had completely forgotten that I had owned that particular piece.
