Simple question. Who makes the best haulbag? Why?

Notice that I'm letting you define what "best" means in this case.

To get things started I'll say that I've seen but not use the Metolius bags and they seem rather well made if a bit pricey.

Fish Atom Smasher! Why? Cause it's fuckin bombproof and the size is right. There's nothing worse than having one way-to-big haulbag for two people. Everytime you need a beer you're doing gut-busting dumpster-diving tricks to find the cold one that has inevitable made it to the bottom of your pig. Next time take two Atom Smashers and make life easier. I've fit everything I need (sleeping bag, bivy sack, food, water) into my Atom Smasher for multiple grade V's. On the approach and descent I wear my harness and carry my gear racked on the gear sling.

Metolius has the best suspension system for carrying to the base. Once you start hauling, they're all about the same.

I have a Metolius and it's OK. I had to modify the crap out of it to make it "great" I would look into the BD ones. The only drawback on those is that water can leak into the closure system. Most likely the Atom Smasher is the bomb! Russ makes GREAT stuff and it's a small outfit. You know, not a big "corporation". I think the above post just convinced me to look into one.

Good Luck!

The Atom Smasher is a sweet hardware bag but any real wallin' will require at least one GVI/VII haul bag if not two or three, in addition to your hardware bag.
