Would you consider yourself sport or trad, and why did you pick it?

Old School Trad....

(mostly because I suck at Sport Climbing. Weakness coupled with unathletecism leaves me wimpering on most climbs above 5.11. Because of this I chastise and deride sport climbing and its practioners as being "Unpure" and corrupt to the nature of true climbing, TRAD)

Both are great but TRAD is where it is at. But Alpine Mountaineering ... that is true climbing for the summit.

trad, cause thats what most climbs are in my area. My ultimate goal is mountaineering, though. Anything vertical is awsome in my opinion.

The solitude and the serenity of being wrapped in the roaring blanket of silence on top of an alpine peak.

Trad B Rad. Doing it up on a faux-natural line is WAY better than following a line of bolts. After all, a good trad line has the potential for off-route mistakes (FA?) that can be quite good.

Sport climbing is like golf: put your number of strokes on the card and calculate your handicap.

Trad climbing is like climbing: you meet and defeat the rock as it was meant to be. You attain a summit. Your affliction degenerates: Walls.

I really liked that but let me paraphrase it according to my beliefs

Alpine for the soul
Trad for your head
Sport for the flow
Boulder for purity

If I had to use the four elements I would say

alpine is air
trad is earth
sport is water
bouldering is fire

sport - i like cranking out hard moves...working sequences...training for hard climbs. basically for the challenge. trad is a different type of challenge. once i find reward in ripping up a hard climb, leading a lower level trad just doesn't give me the same accomplishment.

Following an aesthetic line of rock in alpine terrain that leads to a summit is where it is at for me. Doing so with no or a small amount of gear intensifies the experience for me, making it more rewarding.
