In reply to: Hmmm. So I'm a Gumby, a Nerd, a Geek, and an Old School Traddie since I wear socks when I climb. Thanks. I didn't realize that it wasn't "Cool" to wear socks in climbing shoes. How could I be so stupid. Holy friggin 90210, Batman. Holy Dawson's Creek! me too! In fact I even posted a pic in the photo archive of me climbing in WHITE socks!!! LOL! wearin' my dork flag high! uhh or low, them socks being on my feet and all...

At least in one of my pics I'm wearing brown socks. Man, that could have been really bad. I do have some w/out socks. That's before I turned to the dorkside.

I just watched Front Range Freaks - there's a segement about the late Derek Hersey with a bunch of footage of him soloing hard multi-pitch 5.10 and 5.11 routes in Eldo. Awe inspiring. In pretty much every scene he is wearing thick ass tube socks with his climbing shoes

I wear socks all the time, hasn't caused me any problems yet. then again, I didn't buy my shoes painfully tight. I lace them tight as I can, and have been able to edge stuff .25 to .375 wide without slipping...those 1/8th inch ledges are still a bitch ;-) on those holds I will often work my foot into the hold as much as I can and I do supose this takes the "slack" out, that equates to whatever slippage my foot might be having inside the shoe. interestingly, I recently got two climbing books out of the library that were published in '87 and '91...EVERYBODY in the books is wearing socks. there's a nice pic of Lynn Hill leading Naked Edge (5.11) with socks right out the top of her shoes. ;-) maybe next year I'll buy a tighter pair of shoes.

On the topic of shoes and socks, Humpty Hump said... "If you wear corrective shoes and you got big bunyons, toe nails smell and look like onions, don't DOWHATCHALIKE, go see a foot doctor tonight." What a prophet he was.

"Ironman" brand makes running/biking socks and you get get them real thin, they fit tight and would probly be cool in rc shoes. You can find them in running catalogs and online sites...
