The generally accepted big wall axiom is that if it's not clipped in, you will (not might, WILL) drop it. So, you should sew clip-in loops to all your clothes, bags, sleeping bag (polyester, not down), etc., etc. I learned this from the John Middendorf website:

Here's a lesson I learned the hard way: make the clip-in loops big enough for your hand, and not just for a carabiner. Otherwise, you have trouble clipping. Also, it's easier to handle and clip in if your hand is in there. Instead of an eye-shaped loop with one sewing point, sew it in at both ends, as a +/- 5 inch line with some slack in it.
I pulled the core out of some old 6mm/7mm perlon and sewed the empty sheath for loops on a bunch of stuff today. The sheath is easy to sew through, and because it's got that climbing rope look to it, your pile jacket has been upgraded (as long as you sew it to the back of the collar, where people can see it).
An amazingly inept sewing job is enough to keep the loop in place. I know. I pulled and pulled at my inept loops, but they still held.
I sewed forwards with a zig-zag action, then reversed direction, and then forward again. I got carried away, and kept the pedal to the metal, hitting the Reverse Button again and again and again and again.
The downside to this method is when all the thread tangles and bunches and locks up in the lower mechanism of the sewing machine because you have NO idea what you're doing. Have some tiny scissors ready, to reach in there and cut your stuff free.
Still, though, I can't pull those loops off my pile jackets.

Yeah! I have loops on a lot of things... and I'm not even a big wall climber...

I was so badly mentally scarred by my experiences with sewing machines in Home Economics Class in Year 8 that I have never EVER touched one again. :evil: :evil:
I stitch everything by hand.
I swear I could hear those machines laughing at me when I came into the room! It didn't matter which one I used, within seconds of pushing the pedal
IT GOT JAMMED
even if i changed machines with someone who was having no problems, that machine would jam, and the machine the other person took over would start to work
