The weather seems to be in our favour this weekend. Has anyone given any thought about getting on some rock? What crag are you planning on going to? What type of conditions do you expect to encounter? And are there access restrictions at this time of year? I’m dying to get on the rock but I have never climbed the escarpment this time of year. Any info is much appreciated!! If i wasn’t bringing a beginner with me i would just go.. but if the conditions are going to be demanding it might be better to stick to the gyms.. ~jc

I'm climbing the escarpment this weekend - though I don't know about taking a beginner there - things will be wet and muddy - ideally you want to introduce someone to rock climbing on a beautiful day (makes them enjoy it more).

I was there (Rattlesnake) yesterday (Thursday). It was great. We were the only climbers there. Some routes are wet. A lot are dry. The top of the cliff was snow covered so take care, use a leash, etc. This weekend should be a curtain of top ropes at Rattlesnake so I would recommend Buffalo Crag or Nemo instead. No top roping allowed at Nemo (mandatory this year). And of course don't use the cedars. Get some really long webbing until they put the anchors in latter this year.

I was up at Metcalf yesterday. The hike in has been graveled so the path was nice and dry. There are still a few patches of ice and snow in the talus, but on the whole it was warm and dry. The rock was a bit cold under the overhang though.

But hopefully Rattlesnake or Buffalo on Saturday. PM me if you'd like.

My wife, daughter and I will be at Rattlesnake on Saturday, unless the forecast changes. Anyone else going to be around with kids? Antonia is five and although she likes to climb she really prefers the gym. Outside she climbs a little, but mostly enjoys playing with rocks and getting very very dirty. We are hoping to meet some people to climb with outside this summer, inside too actually. We're usually at Gravity for a few hours each weekend if we can't get outside. Cheers.
