Anything made with Schoeller. That stuff is great. It's not the cheapest stuff around though.

I am not sure how reasonable you would find $100 or so, but the V10 pants here look pretty salty. Good luck finding them though.

I go to value village--used clothing. Got a couple pairs of wicked pants, light rayon or something with drawstrings on the legs and a side cargo--super light, roomy and no wierd buckles under the harness. $5 each pair! (@$95 savings per, thats $190 for the road trip out to use them!) peace, -p

Pajama bottoms are good, especially the ones with elastic cuffs so you can keep them up on your calf. I prefer sweatpants. $6, Walmart. You can also buy a Prana patch for a few bucks and sew it in if it makes you feel like a bada$$ :D

go to popular outfitters and buy the cheap convertible pants they sell for around twenty bucks. THEY ABSOLUTELY RULE. they are nylon and zip off at the knee so you have pants AND shorts together... how practical

Yeah, I agree with the convertible pants option. I got some cheap ones and have climbed in them a hundred times. It is great to be able to zip off the legs when it gets hot.

Depends on where you climb. Those nylon convertable pants that are touted here get shredded in 3 climbs where I'm from. Carharts seem to be the standard atire, and even those don't last long on Vedauwoo's scalpelriffic granite. Conversely, the sandstone/conglomerate of Eldorado Canyon is real nice to clothing, and if you're on the sandstone around Moab, if tear pants regularly, you're doing something wrong. I have a pair of the REI Schoeller pants and they seem to do quite well, although the adhesive that keeps the rubber to the velcro ankle cuffs is not especially long lived (I got mine in December and the tabs are two peice affairs already).

Anything that allows for freedom of movement would be a first consideration. Durability would come in a close second. Look for what I believe is called a "gusseted" construction on the pants or shorts. It looks like a large diamond stitched under the crotch. This will usually allow for alot of unrestricted leg movement and less embarrassing rips  REI does sell some pants and shorts around $40-65-depending if there is a sale(which are frequent throughout the year). But you could very well find what your looking for at you local sporting goods store. In any case, you will realize that "climbing"-specific wear is sometimes more marketing than nessicity(?).
