FOR CLIMBERS USING THE TABLE MOUNTAIN/GROTTO AREA The new nearby landowner has placed a padlock on the gate where the first cattle guard leads to the dirt road. The land between the first and second cattle guards is private property, HOWEVER, there is a public easement on this land which provides public access to the public land The Grotto and Fissures sits on. The landowner is reportedly going to be out there this weekend 4/12/03 attempting to keep people from using this public easement. He may try to assert that it is private land and that crossing it is trespassing. Do not be belligerent, but quietly assert your right to cross. You'll have to walk that part of the dirt road if the gate continues to be locked. If you have any issues with this land owner while attempting to cross, note the date, time, and what happened, what was said, and send that information to us here at the site. The guidebook author is an attorney and will be pursuing negotiations with the surrounding land owner and if necessary all available legal options to restore access. The gate is now unlocked at this point. If you are interested in maintaining a community of climbers for the Table Mountain and surrounding areas. Send an email through the site www.sonorapassclimbing.com and let me know that you are interested in staying informed about climbing in the area.
