No, but the new line of Singing Rock harnesses look sweet. They're like the Petzl ones but less expensive.

I like the idea of having spectra gear loops and a full strength haul loop. The Met. harness looks bombproof, safety wise.

We actually just had a Metolius rep show us that harness tonight at the gear shop where I work. It really is quite impressive, pretty much idiot proof, specifically designed to eliminate much of the risk associated with those mistakes that tend to get made when people are tired or inexperienced...clipping into a gear loop, tying in through the 'keeper loop', not doubling back (ALWAYS DOUBLE BACK!!!! it's just that their buckle is specially designed so that if you make a major mistake and forget it will most likely not result in you dying) and even the elastic on the back is extra durable. They're also some of the most adjustable harnesses on the market. Really one of the safest harnesses I've ever seen. That all being said, I personally use a Singing Rock. Excellent harnesses and they're quite a bit cheaper than their more well known equivalents.

It is really not that much different that the earlier version that I have, the Raven 3-D. The gear loops feel the same, the tie is not that much different, and the buckle is identical. Its a great harness and it looks cool it, but it has nothing nothing that is that great over their old one.

You're right, it is pretty much the same, but you will notice one big difference on the gear loops...the ones on their new line of harnesses are made out of spectra and bartacked just like runners, they're rated to hold up to 10kn. The buckle hasn't changed, it's always been designed to hold roughly 10kn without doubling back. The difference isn't in how it feels, just in how strong it is should you make the mistake of clipping a part that wouldn't normally be 'structural'.

IMHO every harness if properly sized and used and in good shape is the safest harness around. but this one looks impressive. and have i seen right... does it have a spring between leg loops?? why??

That 'spring' you're seeing is actually another piece of spectra webbing taking the place of the thin nylon keeper strap that usually goes there. You know that little strap on your lower tie-in point that makes sure that the rope stays on the tie-in instead of sliding over to your leg-loop? The concern was that beginners will sometimes tie into that or clip into it with a belay biner mistakenly, and now if they do it will be as strong as the correct tie-in points and make the mistake far less likely to result in any accident. As far as I am aware the only part of the harness that isn't rated to at least 10kn are the two elastic straps connecting the leg loops to the rear of the harness, and even those are bungee cable rapped in 7/16 tubular webbing for durability. Any harness is absolutely safe when used properly, the key with this harness, and the reason it really is great for beginners, is that even if used improperly it's still going to be reasonably safe where other harnesses would just fall apart.

damn, they really thought of everything, i never considered cliping onto that particular nylon strap. people actually do that???? it LOOKS like its not strong enough, so who is willing to take the risk???
