I write poetry.
Don't think I've ever done any about climbing though. It doesn't seem to be the most fitting subject for a poem. When it comes to things like climbing; photography, I think is a more fitting medium.
Come to think of it, I did write one once. But I would be way too self conscious to post it here. I share my writing with only a select few.
I would bet, quite a few people have written poetry about climbing. But the best of it you would not see for the same reasons as I have stated. [Not saying that mine is the best, for it is far from that]
Most poetry is written for oneself and far too personal to share with others, especially for all to see and ridicule.
All you "Tough Guys" out there, who think poetry is pansy can think what you want
Just my opinion. :D

All right, I'll bite. Here's the only one I've done about climbing. I love to write them, but I just never have enough spare time to get the good stuff out. :)
Bloody hands forgive the pain,
To reach the top, a higher plain,
And if you fall, forget the shame,
It's all about the climbing.
Jamming pro into the crack,
pulling through the nice lieback,
Chalk and cliff bars for a snack,
It's all about the climbing.
Overhanging, painful pump,
Highball topout, then you jump,
Smack the crashpad with a thump,
It's all about the climbing.
Flag the crimper for the clip,
Oops, you're sketching, then the slip,
Just sit back and take the whip,
It's all about the climbing.
People ask just why it's done,
They don't think it looks like fun,
And my answer, there's just one:
It's all about the climbing.
Something there that drives us all,
Men and women, tall and small,
Something calls us to the wall,
It's all about the climbing.

On a school felid trip to Yosemite we were assigned to make a poem about the inspiring place. This is a hyque (sp) by Yui Haraguchi. For the proper read, the syllables have been spelled out:

This isn't a poem, but a variation of the answer James Earl Jones gave on Conan's Riddle of Steel, which I call the Riddle of Stone (yeah I know, not too original and I'm probably violation copyright laws right now):
Stone is strong,
but flesh is stronger.
What is stone,
compared to the person that climbs it?
Look at the strength in your body,
and the desire in your heart.
A Higher Power gave us this.
Contemplate this,
on a cliff of your choice.

wow. some pretty inspirational stuff floating around here! i have always written poetry ( i divulge this info despite the fear as now being seen as a girly girl! - think it and die! :lol: ) but found that writing about climbing always ended in filling up the recycling bin!
Coldclimb - you are now my muse! ... and that James Earl Jones stuff, ooh, gave me shivers!
so here's an attempt anyway....
Climbing: The Best Feeling in the World!
Climbing up the orange wall,
Just before the crux.
My arms feel like fireballs,
My muscles screaming loud.
But I stay stuck to the rock,
Like a pesky little fly.
I take a breath and off I go,
To give it my last try.
I lunge high for the hold,
The one just out of reach.
My fingernails get a grip,
I pull up and grit my teeth.
I’ve made it on the ledge,
I give a thankful sigh.
I feel like I’m on top of the world,
Cause I’ve climbed 10metres high!
There’s no other feeling like it,
Climbing up that weathered face.
So I turn and keep on climbing,
You’re hooked, once you’ve the taste.

Writing poetry is kind of queer.
When I climb, I drink lots of (good) beer.
You gotta question a dude with the name of Landon.
He's so sensitive, and his boyfriend's name is Brandon.
Being a dirtbag is what it's all about.
I only climb with girls who put out.
Fatties need lovin' too.
I'm talking o.w.'s, not girls who like to chew.
Jim, Layton, Werner, Warren, and Ammon are our heros.
Sport climbers are all a bunch of spandex wearing queero's.
Bottom to top, no bolts, only chocks.
Klettershoen, hemp rope, and helmet made from a cap and sock.
Trad climbing is a way of life.
I want a chick with gobies to be my wife.
Overhanging, flaring, seeping, crack that's wide,
Is only a problem if it's her backside.
