Wait til EMS has 20% off, or any other place that has a sale... then load up.

REI is having a 20% off sale right now.

Get a job at a gym and get to know the local BD rep.

Here is the simple answer, should you choose to use it.

Some people avoid it like the plague, but I've got a whole pile of great gear at about 50% off retail.

But HERE it is. Take it or leave it.

You wont find any better deals in the whole world.

The cheapest place to buy Camelots is from someone selling their rack or from a rescue gear weanie who needs cash. That's where I got some of mine. Of course, you don't get to pick sizes like that and you may end up with some of the crappy double-stem older style ones. Yeah, yeah, I know some of you out there like them. But those floating triggers are bunkola. Not that I'm complaining. I got them super cheap.

Twice a year Black diamond has a one day sale at their store where most BD gear is at least 20% off. High demand items (like Camalots) will just be 20% off.

If you can make it to Salt Lake in April or October when they have the sales, you can get just what you want.

If there are competing gear shops in your area, sales are almost inevitable. If there are few shops, deals are hard to come buy. (Aren't I punny)

From what I have seen on ebay, BD cams sell for nothing less than what they are worth and usually much more.

Some internet sites have blem cams from time to time, but they are rare.

Mountain Equipment Co-OP in Calgary or Vancouver. Here's the rub..they don't ship to the USA so you have to buy it in person....Both towns are cool though :D

Lew (clymber) bought a whole shitload of stuff in Canada, as the US$ is strong there.

When combined with the good deals, I think he got about 50% off from US prices.

i'm assuming that was a while ago? The US dollar is worthless right now against anything. The canadian peso may once again be = to the dollar or stronger if the US dollar continues to fall. I was gonna make a trip up to canada for my birthday last month. I looked at the prices of gear, factored in the exchange rate and taxes and realized I'd be losing money. I'd make the trip for a nice weekend even if I could break even but not to lose money.

the US has chosen to devalue the Dollar, despite statements to the contrary that the US (and bush administration) favors a strong dollar. I'm assuming the goal is to cut down on imports through a devalued dollar creating more US made demand and US jobs. Lets see if it works :? .

The canadian peso? Dude, if you don't know that Canada has a dollar not a peso, then how can you argue that your going to lose money over a purchase in Canada? I understand that the american "euro" is worth sh!t right now, but your probably not gonna lose $. You can get a BD cam starting at 69$ from the co-op. Factor in an exchange rate at 1.34100, times a 7% tax rate (AB) and your looking at 55$ for a number one. As your sizes go up, your cost gets cheaper. Most discount websites are selling them for $60-65 plus tax for a number 1, and a larger spread for bigger cams. Sh!t, go to NH don't pay tax, and your still paying 5-10 bucks more for a number 1, and even more for the rest of the set then you would in god's country....

Hmm, I'm not sure if you took my canadian peso joke seriously or not (it's hard to tell online) but apparently the canadians of eastern canada (quebec and ontario) have a better sense of of humor, as the canadians I know often joke about the "Canadian Peso".

That said, I'm not impressed with $55 if I have to head to canada to buy it since after shipping I can order it from any US distributor with free shipping (gear express for instance) or buy a blem for $49 or head to NH and buy it and get it for a better deal. I can get them in the US at many places for around $50 with the frequent 20% off sales that have been going on at various retailers for the last few months (shoreline, EMS, Snow Leopard). Hey, when the Canadian Peso (excuse me, the Canadian Dollar) exchange was 1.60 last year heading to canada was a good deal, right now it's borderline unless you are making a trip anyway. Unless you live right on the border after gas and border crossing hassel (at least in NY) you are better off looking for an internet deal.

Thats my 2 Canadian Pesos.
