I do a fair amount of solo climbing so weight is a huge issue. I'm thinking of getting a 3/8" static for hauling. Am I going to regret this. How's a 3/8" compare to 7/16ths? pros and cons..
thanks in advance

I had a 7/16th's for awhile and damn that mother was heavy! When it finally wore out I picked up a 10.3 cord and the weight difference is significant. When jugging fixed lines it's sure nice to have a super beefy rope, but personally I find the 10.3 to be plenty and saving a pound or 2 sure is nice.

I use a 10 for heavy loads (with a partner) and an 8 mil when soloing. Don't know what the english conversion is....

The rope ain't gunna brake, just gotta watch the edges and stuff. 8 mill is the smallest I feel comfortable (not very) rapping on.

I bought an 8mm static line right before I went to the Valley. I used it as a fixed and free hanging rap/jug line in Colorado Nat'l Monument and nearly shit myself every time with it. It was SOOO fast on rappel, and just didn't provide confidence to jug on. I know it probably isn't going to break, but I'd still go with a fatty rope next time- a 10.5 probably.

I use a 10.0 and I think it is way secure. But I think my lead line is 10.2 or .3, so the 10.0 soen't seem too much smaller.
