does yosemite falls ever freeze in the winter?

This is so classic, I have to answer it.
Where do you think those waterfalls come from? They come from melting snow above the valley.
YES the falls do dry up. They'll probably be dry by July.
The only reason the falls would be running in the winter is if it snows and thaws. THis happens. Then the falls create neat cone structures at the base but they themselves do not create climbable ice.

I think the orginal question is if the falls turn into a vertical ice sheet/icicle, not if she goes dry.

If I get his response right, if conditions were right for the falls to freeze, there would not be water to freeze, because it would not be melting at the top.

Man, that would be cool if it did freeze into a huge ice wall. Heck of an ice climb eh? Anyways, that was a good question. Here is a picture of the falls in the winter when it was so cold it was forming snow and plastering to the walls and forming a huge snowdrift at the bottom of the falls...

I took that in early February of this year. I actually hiked up the trail and over near the base of the upper falls, it was weird with snow coming down and very little sound, considering the amount that was falling. Here is a close-up...The black in the lower left is a fallen tree that wouldn't get out of the way.
