[violet] I recently climbed for the first time at a gym and I totally loved it. I really want to get into it but I don't know anyone who climbs. (I climbed in Michigan while visiting some friends up there) I am a little intimidated to just go to a gym all by myself. :? Is that even the best way to get started? I researched online a little about gyms in my area and indoor and outdoor courses to take but I wanted some advice. Anything would be appreciated! And if anyone is just starting out in the DC metro area or is interested in helping out a beginner let me know if you want to meet up. :) [/violet]

If you are looking to climb with women only, try the ladies room or send a private message to howitzer, she works at one of the sport rocks and should be able to set you straight.

Hey I goto Sportrock Alexandria 3-4 times a week. I've only been climbing since March so it'd be cool to meet other beginners. Let me know if you want to meet up. I'll probably be going Saturday night or Sunday.

hey, i live in takoma park [2 blocks from the metro] and climb at carder rock/great falls a fair amount, if ur interested, PM me and id be more than happy to show u the rocks. ive got plenty of equipment, as long as u have shoes/harness on a related note: anyone in the DC area be willing to act as a "trad mentor", i.e. take a trad-newb out and teach me the ropes? i can lead 5.7 on trad, and am willing to follow easy 5.10, i just want to pratice with someone who really knows what they're doing.

Hey You can still climb Great falls when the Little falls gauge is at 6.5 http://waterdata.usgs.gov/md/nwis/uv/?site_no=01646500&PARAmeter_cd=00065,00060,00062,00054 You will lose some of the lower belay stations. Climbs at the Aid Box and balcony ledge should still be OK. These climbs don't wash out until the river gets up to 9 (ish) ft. on the LF guage. Charlie
