It is offical now here in Arizona. Fire season is here. Currently there are 6 major fires burning in the state. Heres a map to show you where all major forest fires are burning in th US. Click on http://www.azfireinfo.com/ for all the latest info in AZ. So far BLM and some National Forest are implementing fire restrictions. If we don't get rain it won't be long till all the forest shut down again like last year. Here is current info on fires in the US. Pray for rain!

Make that eight fires at last count. The one on Mt. Lemon might have been arson.... Everyone get up and do a rain dance NOW. Gawd I hope they don't close the Forks.

In reply to: Make that eight fires at last count. The one on Mt. Lemon might have been arson.... *screeeeeeeeeeeam* NONONONO!!!!!!! What worthless sub-human piece of shit started it? I'll suffocate him by wrapping the armpit end of my capilene around his nose and knotting it behind his head... I'll give him a boiling gasoline enema... I'll feed him what I just scooped outta the cat box... I'll, I'll... This isn't just about climbing though. Andria's mom and I can't think of a more appropriate place to scatter her this summer... AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!  *rain dance*

Geesh I gotta get in the loop. Did they close Mt. Lemmon cause of the fire? Is it out now? The air has been mighty smokey in Flagstaff the last couple of days. Peace, Jeff

In reply to: Geesh I gotta get in the loop. Did they close Mt. Lemmon cause of the fire? Is it out now? I bouldered on the Rose Canyon boulders on Mt. Lemmon 3 days ago (on Sunday) and there were no restrictions or closures at that time--as far as I know. Curt

Thanks for the quick fire updates Chris. by the way, I have been playing on Little England wall for some nice multi-pitch stuff... lots of fun. Easy way to beat the heat in the afternoon. You should check it out

In reply to: Saguaro are weak. Get em on the teddy bear cholla. (tongue-first, like my dog did) Ouch! My dog got into a cholla face first and between his thashing and yelping, I got him all taken care of, but by then I was into it something fierce. Since then I am sure to carry pliers or something better then my hands to pull them (tho he has yet to go near them again...)

If they catch the arsonist they should wrap him in aluminum foil and set him in a Human-Sized Aluminum Foil Reflector Oven (tm) out in the middle of a Tucson parking lot all day and poke him periodically with a fork to see if he is soft in the middle. In the background the music plays....... FIIIII - RE (UH UH) FIIIII - RE (WOAH WOAH WOAH WOAH)

I may be wrong but I would almost bet that they will not close the forest up here down this year. We have had a pretty good spring and things are MUCH better than they were last year. I have talked to a few Forest Service types and they all seem to agree that the Coconino will not close so long as the monsoons start on time. So all of you PHX and Tucson types come on up here before you spontaneously combust. Rick

I heard last night via broadcast news (bad source of info) that the Lemon road was closed. I have a call into a colleague in the Tucson USFS office about any Mt. Lemon closure. Will keep you addicts apprised....

It's official....Mt. Lemon is closed. I talked to my contact in the FS and he predicted it would be at least a week. Once again, I have a July 4th vacation scheduled there. Hope we get rain before then. The current thoery is that it was "human caused" which, for me, translates to arson. Damn people, when you are in your umpteenth year of drought and you have a bark beetle infestation to boot, keep your sparkies to yourself!

Yes, Catalina Highway is indeed closed (at the base) and predicted winds for Friday are to come from the southwest. Bye Summerhaven, we'll miss you. They had such good chili and pies too.
