I see that you're from San Diego...you wouldn't have been climbing at Woodson would you? I've had similar things happen to a LOT of my friends out there.... So sorry about this... :( People really suck sometimes...

I've had stuff ripped too... it is heart renching. I like to picture some idiots wondering what the hell all the stuff is used for, then sit through a double feature of Vertical Limit and Cliffhanger and try some of that cool stuff that looks so easy (and actually possible). Then maybe you will get a call somehow to pick up your stuff from the morgue!!! One can only hope...

That SUCKS. But here's something that might help if you're lucky: A guy I know had his car broken into and all his gear including lots of climbing gear stolen (at Castle Rock in the Bay Area). Filed report with the cops, nothing showed up, and he bought new gear (had insurance). Then, through random lucky connections, he got most of his gear back two plus months later. Here's how: the thief/thieves had taken the gear up along Skyline road into the next county, sorted it, and tossed all the climbing gear into the woods. The Sheriff's folks up there found it, kept it in the stolen/lost pile for two months, then gave it to the SAR team up there - friends of friends on the SAR team finally connected the last name inside the helmet with him, and he got his gear back. Moral of the story: it's not always climbers, and you should contact the police, plus county sheriffs, of the county you're in and others nearby. Hope you get it back. Greg

I had all of my alpine climbing gear stolen from Sea-Tac the day before I was to climb Mt. Rainier. Had to climb in second rate rental gear. American Airlines didn't even want to pay!! Lucky I had secondary traveler's insurance. Taking a picture of all your gear is a good idea, both for the insurance company and when you try to remember everything you lost. I feel for you... it really bites.

in my case, they combined my 2 bags into one, ditching the empty into the trash can, which I found. The cops actually told me "look around at gardeners trucks for your rope holding down the trimmings and your ring clips being used as key rings. The area is highly hispanic populated". Nice

Just a thought, have you checked with your auto insurance carrier? You might be covered by them.

hi, very sorry man. i had my car broken in to about a month ago - lost over $4000 worth of stuff and damage to the car. i haven't gotten anything back. car insurance will cover damage to the vehicle and things attached to the vehicle like stereos, but it will not cover loose items like climbing gear. i was also naive and didn't have renter's insurance, but you can bet i sure do now. $30,000 of coverage from geico only cost me $150 for the year. hindsight is 20/20 and if you are like me you are going to spend an awful lot of money on tequila to get over this, but get renter's insurance tomorrow.

That's sh*tty man, but look on the brightside: you get to buy all new gear! I mean, that's fun, right? That is, if you've got a bankroll bigger than mine... Mike...

I have a question. Did you have any climbing or Outdoor stickers and such on your vehicle? if so this could tip off someone to possible bootie in your car.
