Well, I haven't been to Sqamish, BC yet, but I'm planning on going there as soon as school gets out..(june). I hear that the trees and the proximity to the ocean keep summertime temps in the 50s - 60s and they even have a hottub! Colorado would be another great location...high eleveation places anyway, such as Rocky Mountain National park. Then of course, if you had lots of money, you could go to New Zealand or Australia where it would be winter there. peace, tim

Colorado all the WAY. I've been living here for about a year and a half, and there's so much awesome climbing here it's STUPID. I just found out there's a 450 ft. cliff just a few miles from my apartment that I didn't even KNOW about. Lumpy, Eldorado, South Platte, Golden Cliffs... it just goes on and on.

All of these places sound great as far as quality of climbing but there is one problem. Sure you can climb at Rumney during the summer but how many climbs are you going to get to climb. I prefer a somewhat less travelled area. My favorite is the Adirondacks. There are places you can go and not see anybody. ANother good place for busy times is all of the cliffs off of the Kancamangus Highway in NH. It can be very hot and humid in the summer but there won't be a soul there even on Labor Day weekend. Peace Kellen

Whenever I've climbed anywhere in the "East" in the Summer, it's been so humid and buggy! The West is wonderful in the Summer. Surprisingly, summer can sometimes be the best times to visit the "hot" areas. Mt Lemmon in Tucson in the Summer can be great - just drive right past Windy Point and head higher up the mtn to the piney region. It can be 100 in town and 70 on the mtn. The best trip I ever had to City of Rocks was in July. Had a perfect trip by climbing in the shade and taking a mid-day siesta. Both other times I was there, in May, I got snowed on! Those deep north facing canyons at Red Rocks, like a lot of the stuff in Black Velvet, can be great in June. But I have to say, the most perfect place is Tuolomne Meadows in July and August. It's so gorgeous there. And if it gets stormy, you just drop down to the East side of the Sierra and climb at places like Rock Creek or Pine Creek canyons in the afternoon when it gets in the shade.

I go with the consensus here and vote Colorado. Sport in boulder canyon, and clear creek. Trad in eldo and the south platte, gotta love it. Climbingboulder.com does rock, It's about time people knew about lovers leap. I mean seriously, how long can a 450 foot cliff sit under a 300 foot lighted cross visible from the whole city and not get climbed? [ This Message was edited by: compclimber on 2002-01-19 13:16 ]

I think the best place would have to be Joshua Tree. I am planning on going to climb there hopefully for a week in a couldple of years and what i have only heard good things about that place, it has some of the easiest routes but also some of the hardest in america. i can't wait to go. people that live around there be happy that you have a place like that to climb at all time, i wish i did.

I would climb somewhere close to where I was at the time don't worry about it just go with the flow, the best climbing trips for me are the suprise ones, the ones you plan for usualy don't end up the way you plan wanted anyway. Jeff
