Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps You can buy them at most health food stores in the US and many places online. Definitely recommended.

What type of soap? You can use Dr. Brommers (sp?) for your body, but it doesn't make a good shampoo. (if you know of a shampoo, please share your info). There are also lots of other soaps you can find in camping or natural food stores. Dish soaps are kind of sketchy because some will claim to be all natural and then put 'preservatives' in thier list of ingredients without listing what they are. Lots of preservatives contain mercury in them, which don't biodegrade and accumulate in the fish and harm the environment. Not something you want to be putting in a river.

I use it everyday...like wonderwoman said though, not a good thing for your hair (if you have long hair). My boyfriend doesn't mind it in his hair...but then again he doesn't have a whole lot of hair left! The peppermint and the Eucalyptus are my two favorites (tingly!)...

Mmmmm...Trader Joes. Peanut butter filled pretzels...*drooooool* Oh yeah, soap. Not quite as tasty. There's a line of enviro products called Seventh Generation that's has every sort of soap you could want. I prefer Doc Bronner's myself, but I dunno if I'd use it for laundry...

There really is no such thing as an environmentally friendly soap... Sad but true. As far as environmentally friendlyER soap, go for Dr. Bronners, if you must use soap. I never bring soap backpacking, and I get along just fine.

Most soaps these days are biodegradable, but even plutonium becomes harmless if you wait long enough (half life of 24,360 years). So, only use enough to emulsify the oily gook on your hands or face and don't overdo it in the wilds.
