My guess and this is only a guess...
Because pigs are big fat and heavy.
Haul bags are big fat and heavy and you feel like you're hoisting a real pig up the wall...

You guys are way off. Haulbags are actually made out of pig skin. My buddy told me this, and I didn't believe it until one night we were caught out and had to eat the pig to survive. It was like chewing on urethane coated nylon it was so tough.

My pig is named Jeffry. Have you ever seen the serial killer specials on the Discovery channel? They always show the pre-sentencing victim impact statements from Jeffry Dahmer's trial. At his trial only a few of the many victim's family members get to speak directly to Jeffry. I think they only picked speakers who were crazier than Jeffry. One noteable African American woman pulsates with emotion and rage as she screams at her son's killer...I hate you F*&king Jeffry, I'll f*&king kill you Jeffry.
What does this have to do with my halbag? Well the first time I put it on and walked up the slabs toward the NWF of HD, I felt the rage of that woman. And as I wallored through the manzanitas desparately off route, I felt the anger stewing toward that chunk of urethane coated nylon. And when I broke a rib throwing myself into the desparate hauling, I erupted...I hate you f%&king Jeffry, I'll kill you mother f&%ker.
So, his name came to be Jeffry. I keep him tightly lashed away from me at bivis out of fear he will get out the bolt kit, drill through my skull, and copulate with my brain. He is a murderer/petafile/haulbag, I am a wall climber, we get along just fine.

What can I say? Some people "get it," and some people don't.
Take topramen for instance. Had he ever hauled a pig, he would know why it is called such. [Dr. Piton recommends he attempt and hopefully complete a big wall. Thenceforth, the answer will be self-evident.]
