Just a heads up for all Ottawa climbers http://ottawa.cbc.ca/regional/servlet/View?filename=climbers20030723 Also does anyone know anything about the accident they mention in the article? Some frends of mine who work for MEC said they had to guide a ambulence by phone to Cardinal Rock witch is the middle of nowhere and no one realy climbs there.

Hey Christian! I think the last time I ran into you we were both at the top of "Pete's Farewell" in the Daks last Fall! How goes it? A friend phoned me this morning about this; apparently, access issues at Home Cliff made it onto the early morning news. The message on my answering machine was a bit garbled, but she seemed to be saying that the trail that leads from the pull-off to Home Cliff, (and Farm Rock, the Gallery and Bald Face) will be closed in the coming month. Personally, I think my friend is panicking on the basis of some random news report. I e-mailed the ACC about it this morning; maybe they'll be able to tell us what's going on. I dunno... I was at Home Cliff two weekends ago and didn't see anything amiss, (i.e., threatening signs, farmers running around with firearms and spouting obscenities, etc). I'll share what I find out from the ACC. I think Ms. Laframboise was exagerating a bit when she spoke of the "onslaught of bodies" carried down from the Escarpment on a regular basis. Then again, I've only been at this for a bit over 2 years so who knows. Cheers, E

Is there a way to keep posted on this? I don't want to pi$$ any angry farmers off out of sheer ignorance. I haven't made many trips there lately but was planning on going. I'm not aware of the injuries though. Sounds dangerous. :D

I think the main point is that Ms. Laframboise doesn’t mind climbers using her land but the NCC/Gatineau Park has no policy on climbing in the park and therefore no contingencies for rescuing climbers/Hikers from that part of the park. Also the access point is not only used by climbers a lot of hikers and paragliders also uses the access point.
